Just finished this one for a friend. His mom ordered it for Christmas. It took me 3+ months to find this wood. I think it was worth it!

Nice knife and that wood is very unique. It took me longer to find and have delivered the wood for my last knife than to have it built.

No it isn't one of his. He does have some nice stuff tho. I bought 2 sets of scales that were "blue" in the pictures but when they came they were black/grey. I searched long and hard for this piece.

I like the knife/wood a lot. Everything BUT the large lanyard hole. Maybe if it had a blue paracord or something thicker it wouldn't look so big to me. JMO.

I like the hole kept to a minimum. 1/4" is good. Don't you know a tighter hole is better, Dale? grin

I also dig the matching lanyard bead. Very nice touch.

I'm sure your friend will love it Dan.........

so far the large lanyard hole "likes" is ahead of the small or none at all. Sometimes a big hole is a good thing....

I always get scared when there is that little of "meat" between the hole and edge of scale. I have just seen too many scales crack there.

Have also cracked some myself putting brass tube in blush but I think that lesson has been learned now.

It would be a shame to see such beautiful scales eventually crack. I think they are really cool looking........

so far so good on the little piece of scale there. I drill tiny holes on the back side of the scale and liner so the epoxy can get a good grip. I turn all the pins and tubes on my lathe so they don't have to be forced in. It's the stress on the part that will get you every time

I guess hole size is all personal preference. Relative to what you trying to put in it.

I hand pick every piece of wood I use for each specific knife. I don't leave my wood choice up to whoever is filling orders that day. I won't buy scales or blocks unless I see the picture of exactly what I'm getting. Now if I send in wood to be stabilized, I understand that's a crap-shoot. This way I end up with just the right piece for the poject I have in mind. So many times I see the most beautiful blade glued to the most hideous piece of HomeDepot pallet scrap.
