A few thoughts that Africa / Namibia left this 1st timer with:
We were treated extremely well by everyone. There is much poverty and the people we encountered mostly live a tough existence but they ere happy and always pleasant to us.
Namibia (where we were)is BIG, harsh, unforgiving country. The amount and diversity of wildlife was incredible. We hunted on huge cattle ranches moving from ranch to ranch depending on what we were hunting. Our PH Jamy Traut Safaris has exclusive and sole hunting rights on hundreds of thousands of acres of Eastern Namibian privately owned ranch country. Additionally he has several other concessions on government owned land giving him access to an untold amount of land and wildlife. While we were there my hunting partner and I were the only 2 hunting it.
On any animal we harvested we were only allowed to keep the hide & horns. Everything else goes to the ranch where the game was harvested. They then distribute it to the ranch workers or locals as needed. NOTHING is ever wasted. It was fascinating to see how they manage their wildlife. A group of Namibian ranch hands can take a 1,000 lb animal, cut it up and sort it out in a matter of 30 minutes. Knives flying everywhere. Had to see it to believe it!! Every single part is cut up and distributed for food or for some sort of use. With 40% unemployment in Namibia and ranch workers making $40 per month they were very glad to have it!! Anything & everything that is harvested is table fare.
