My 35 Remington is a Remington pump,,,,,,,,,,,,,,as it should be. I have no desire for a mongrel 99. 22 Hi-power, 250-3000, .303, and .300. PERIOD. If you want any other caliber, let it be one that was factory chambered. Then you'll never be involved in a pissin contest.............

Here is the deal....what is with this brush busting deal? And I am gonna do this at home. Take a bunch of brush put it 10 yards then 20 yards in front of the target and see how she does. I read an article by Van Zwoll and he found a deflected bullet is a deflected bullet. I would bet a 30/30 180 would do the same as a 35 as a 300 sav as a 444 as a 30 06 as 20 ga slug as a 50 cal muzzeloader as a 250 3000 as a 308 as a 303 sav as a 22 mag. However I do not own a 35 remington so I will test the others. Will re post result only if I am right! LOL

jercon, I like your idea, 300 sav. and 35 rem. cases are real close in dimension. The sav.99 in 300 savage would be the best choice for a 35 rem.conversion. Go for it!

I think a 99 in 35rem would be COOL but a 99 in any caliber would be COOL smile

Angus 1895 I know what your results will be , I have been there done that even the 535 grain 45-70 deflects! the statement of the 35 Remington being a brush buster, is just an old saying in the old Mountain deer camps I grew up in for 62 years here in Pa.necking the 300 up to 35 cal would be fine, but finding a chamber reamer could be fun. having one made would be costly when I can rent a 35 Remington reamer for $26.00. I have a Remington 141 35 pump. The 99 35 Remington is just my dream Rifle and something I have always wanted to make. I said use a take down 300 then I would be able to use both the 300 and 35.

A discussion in this Forum several years ago concerning the calibers available in the Model 99 caused me to compile a list of such calibers available in the Model 99 since it's inception.

Here's the list for your gratification:

Savage 99 Calibers:

.22 HP
.22-250
.243
.25-35
.250-3000
7mm-08
.284 Win.
.30-30
.303 Savage
.300 Savage
.308
.32-40
.358
.375
.38-55

I have also heard of several wildcat calibers believed to be factory specials from time to time. smile

That would be cool...but a 35 Rem would still be COOLer cool

One huge consideration (at least to me) is that you can still buy 35 Rems right off the shelf in just about any 2 bit town with a hardware store.

And in the interest of nostalgia, there is something about the 35 Rem that would make a pre war 99 at least period correct in the sense that the 99 and the 35 Rem were both very popular at the time.

How about a pre war R in 35 Rem? Got a hint of wood just thinking about it blush

Paul,
Please try to refrain from inflamatory comments on the collectors forum. If you insist in your heresy you will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Thank you and have a nice day.

The Savage forum is not part of America. Please refrain from tang safety worship. Have a nice day.
