Had a friend who wanted to work up some loads for his kid's 7-08.

I put together 3 different loads and we headed to the country to try them out. On the way, the guy would not shut up.

Unloading our gear and setting up our targets, the guy would not shut up.

When I started shooting the rifle, the guy would not shut up.

I usually can tune out the gibberish around me when shooting, but this was getting on my nerves and I wasn't able to focus and it showed.

The result - the test was pretty inconclusive.

On the way back to town, my buddy said, "Well, we didn't learn much from that did we?"

I responded, "Well, I certainly learned a lot."

"Your sister thinks her husband is screwing around on her"
"You had some Michelin tires that lasted 82,000 miles"
"When you see Merry X-mas, it pisses you off"

And last but not least,

"You once had an oak tree that never shed it's leaves"

He didn't speak the rest of the way home.

Hallelujah! grin

LOL!! It's a shame that you weren't shooting a braked .30-378. After the first shot, he wouldn't have been anywhere close to you.

One of my huntin' buddies usually shoots a .264 Win Mag. He has a brake for it, but normally doesn't use it. A couple of years ago, we were shooting and one of the self-appointed "experts" that hangs around the range was ogling my somewhat customized Ruger #1 .25-06, asking a bazillion questions and pontificating on his opinions of Rugers and other lofty subjects. I got a chance and made eye contact with my friend, who was on the next bench, and rolled my eyes. He grinned and a minute later I saw him screwing on that damned muzzle brake. I put on a set of muffs over my plugs. The range was hot so my friend ripped off three shots, and of course the muzzle blast damn near blew our hats off. After the third shot we looked around and "Mr. Expert" was nowhere to be seen.

Bring enough gun and know how to use it.
