prm, the Production paradox has a few more refined features that I don't believe were on many of the testers. The first is two different places to attach the belt, so it can be adjusted about 1.25 inches, meaning a frame height of 28 inches can be lowered to an effective height of 26.75. In addition, there are a couple of frame options, one being the frame extensions to run a 24 / 28 inch frame and the second being having a 28 inch frame and trimming it to desired height. While, I really like the frame extensions, I use a 26 inch frame most of the time, and just lower it on the belt for most usage and then raise it for heavy loads. It's a little simpler for me, and at 6'1" it works well. Honestly, I could go either way, both the extensions or changing the belt work well for me.

Would there be interest in a larger Talon, say 2000 Cubic inches ? It seems a lot of people really want a day pack with big load capability, or the option to drop a dry sack and roll on ?

I can get it all in my Eberlestock J104 just fine, and even on the X2 with some creativity.

At 5'8" I wonder if some of these packs are too tall? Are any of your testers under 6'0"? Looking forward to your reviews.

Kevin,

To answer this question, YES! But I don't want just a bag. I want a bag that has pockets/compartments inside so I can find what I want when I want it. Seems when you just have a bag everything I am looking for is down at the bottom. crazy And that just doesn't work for me. I like organization.
Then the next thing I want is super quiet material. I watched your demo video's and I could hear the material making noise in the video when you were showing the articulation of the frame. confused Just for an example, it could have been just where the mike was, don't know?

What I want I think is simple but most company's don't have everything I want so maybe I'll just build my own. mad

Hi Wild_Bill

The Day Talon we have has several pockets, 4 to be exact plus a hydration compartment, but it is not super large. The XPAC is noisier, but when it is worn, it does not make any noise unless it is rubbing on something. I notice the noise of Cordura on my body more than anything.

Super quiet material, really there aren't many, fleece / wool etc pretty much, but softshell, packcloth , cordura all have some noise factor.

A little run down of the 4800 with a side zip, and basic organization options

sreekers and Kevin,
Thanks for your inputs. I think it would fit fine and the adjustments puts it in my hands to play with it and get it right. Maybe after Christmas I can shop for me! I'm thinking a 4800 with side zipper and a Base Talon would do the job.

There are a few people ready for this, 6 months in the making. From acquiring packs, to testing, and then getting it all into written word and picture form.

Laffin... I feel your pain.

I've been half-assedly working on a piece called "Backcountry Bows" It's more work than you would think.

The reviews are work, luckily I really enjoy it. I dove straight into a puffy jacket review for another site.

The unfortunate part about a pack review is that you have to get a lot of miles under a variety of loads. Not really any way to half way approach that, the plus side is that I lost weight over the summer doing a ton of packing.

Where will I be able to find this review once published? A thread or somewhere else? I'd also like to point out that today is the last day to be considered "early in December". grin

The review will be posted here, and only here in the articles section on the main page. I will be sending him the final draft with a publication date in early December.

Once published I will start another thread in the backpack hunting section where we can answer more questions about the review, and anything specific you want to see on the packs we still have.

Thanks for all of the patience as we have put this review together! I appreciate every request for when the review would be coming out and for wanting to read it!

Not to worry, I'm sure there will be plenty of links to it once "printed."

Not available yet, but we are shooting for March as our publication date, that one will be on Rokslide.

You did make a good choice, I wore the Uncompahgre yesterday with the North Branch pants for a couple mile hike. First Lite makes quality gear.

The pants and jacket r both good. I used them both backcountry skiing and sledding the last couple days.

Hopefully before the SHOT show or I will have to wait until the next review and next December to but a pack. haha

I am looking forward to the review. Sold my Kifaru bikini and wanting to buy something soon. Can't try them before I buy so these reviews are the next best thing.
