Stands to reason you wouldn't be kidded about the choice of a real rifleman, but then, real riflemen don't wear leopard camo, either.

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

i have taken more abuse(verbally) about my choices of hunting rifles than most on this board,,
I have a Spanish mauser that I bought and bubba-ed into a perfect 50yard to 175 yard rifle it looks bad but I most of the time , bring home the meat while others have unfilled tags with very expensive rifles,,
reason I get the abuse is I do own a few very expensive rifles but I get the biggest kick out of hunting with mosin nagants, Spanish mauser,, even the Japanese arisaka at times

The first year I hunted at a friend's camp the camp know it all commented on my 760 30-06 is a "damned cannon". Later I bought a.243 and he commented "the .243 his comment was "the .243 is too fast for brush and will deflect off brush too easily". A few years later his son showed up with a 300 win mag and I looked at him and said "and my 30-6 is a damned cannon"? He said "he got a got deal and had to buy it".

Yep, I grew up in a crew that considered the 308 win the top end for deer. 3006 was for elk. 270 was a waste of meat, but 250savage and 243 win were just fine for elk.
300 Savage was the round real hunters used.
Hard to argue against that one.
