Got this message from Snowbelt Outfitters Face Book Page:
Pete Maina, Professional Angler and Muskie Expert. "PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE YOU KNOW GANDER MOUNTAIN IS OWNED BY ANTI HUNTING WOMAN AND HER HUSBAND!!"
"I received this message below on email from my brother Steve (Maina). It was sent directly to him by the author of the email. My wife called Gander Mountain to verify the story and they confirmed: Removing of ALL mounts is a company wide decision. This obviously appears to be an anti-hunting statement coming directly from the head of the organization. I encourage you to contact Gander Mountain and let them know how you feel. Please share this information with your hunting and fishing friends. (Below is the message my brother received regarding 'mounts' being taken down at Gander Mountain. While we do not know the official 'reason' this is what the employee at GM shared with my bother's friend). "Went to Duluth. MN Saturday with the wife Christmas shopping. Stopped at Gander Mountain- the we live the outdoors store. I wandered back to the gun section to check on ammo. I look up on the wall for my Caribou mount & all the mounts are gone off the wall. I ask a sales guy where is my mount. He says let me call a supervisor. A young man comes in a couple minutes & I ask him. He says they were supposed to call every one with mounts in the store. I said no one called me. He explained that the Duluth store was going to be remodeled in February. All the mounts were taken down & would not be put back up. He said the CEO's wife did not want to see dead animals on the walls any more at Gander Mountain. I told the guy I would be up to get my mount & would never shop there again."

Hmmmmm...well...it wouldn't be the first time Gander waffled on PC correctness...
Not saying it's true but Gander has crossed the tracks before...

I heard that Cabela's was going to quit selling sporting goods as a show of solidarity.

The Gander Mnt in Palm Bch Gardens Fl was selling a Mnt Lion mount 2 yrs ago(I posted pic on 24hr). According to the Mgr, corporate said 'sell all animals that may frighten kids & women'. I made an offer of 50% asking price, they refused.
I doubt Gander is going anti-hunting, though that policy is kinda retarded IMO.

Do far, this seems to be just another internet rumor. It apparently started on a fishing forum and has been spread to other forums as well. A quick search turned up zero in news articles from any credible source.

I've never shopped at GM but this surprises you? Most of these stores have very few employees that know anything about hunting, fishing and shooting. They are nothing more than clerks in most cases. I'm surprised they can even stay in business.

I have some great firearms that I have purchased at Gander Mountain throughout the years - and at some great prices.
I noticed that some beautiful mounts were taken down some time ago at a local Gander Mountain store. I also know they were exhibited in memory of the Taxidermist - who was my friend in the old days.
These mounts, were not the property of GM - so I thought nothing of it when they were gone. But as far as GM going anti-hunting? As far as I'm concerned GM can display whatever they choose. And for whatever reasons - I won't jump to any conclusions.
Now, if they quit selling guns & ammo ... maybe you can make a case!

Big seller chains become very dictatorial and weird-minded.
When I published my cartridge book, Gander Mountain wanted to sell it. Fine! But they also wanted to dictate terms and policies. Nope. I told 'em that when I bought from 'em (which I'd been doing for quite a while), I'd go by their prices, terms, and policies but if I'd sell to 'em, I'd set all the terms.
This all came slouching slowly out of the murk when I dug into the "personal profile" that they wanted me to fill-out ostensibly "so we know something about whom we're dealing with."
I didn't sell to 'em and didn't buy from 'em any more.
A friend of mine repped for several footware-manufacturers. Cabela's (IIRC) demanded samples before any contract "to determine whether they were of acceptable quality." My friend found that these "freely supplied samples" were being put-up for sale. So he thereafter made sure that all the samples that he submitted had big holes punched through the soles.
C's didn't try to sell those.

Removing mounts makes Gander Mountain anti-hunting? I have no mounts in my house - does that make me an anti-hunter?

I'm a little stupid, so just to confirm....You called the Duluth location and asked 'are you an anti-hunting store/corporation'? And they replied "yes" ?

So a store that sells firearms, reloading equip, ammo, archery, etc, etc is anti-hunting because they are changing their decor? Ummm.. I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Sure it does. If they pulled the stuffed fish they are anti-fishing. I camp when I hunt. They must be anti-camping.
