Asking for suggestions on who to use in CO for guided 2 (myself and brother) on 1 hunt. Not looking for a monster bull just hopefully a nice one. Never been but this is on my bucket list. Thanks

To let others point you in the right direction you'll have to state your budget if you aren't willing to kill a typical raghorn (2 year old 4 or so point)

do you have preference points in the Colorado draw? if so, how many. that would have a significant impact on what areas are available to you as well.

Make sure you make a plan and stick to it. Also do not try to fall over 60 ft cliffs. Fact

Bar-H outfitters out of Meeker.
Jeanne Horne will treat you right. Good camps, good stock, good food. Area hunted is public land.
Unit 12 has a very good bull to cow ratio and has the most elk of any given unit in Colorado.
Remember Colorado manages for quantity ,not quality ,except for a few specific draw areas.

Thanks for the replies. I have never put in for the draw so no points. I have no clue as to hunting out there so that's why I want to hunt with a guide first time...

First time out, I'd look at a drop camp for a cow elk. After youve been out to Co. once youll have a better idea what it takes

You wont go wrong with Jeanne Horn. We have done 5 drop camp hunts and are booked for 2014. Good stock, equipment and personel. You can take to the bank on what she tells you. Just my 2cts worth.

do not do a drop camp for your first hunt, a 2 on 1 guided hunt would be your best bet. look in the back of current Bulge magazine for outfitters. contact one of the RMEF chapters in your state, someone with them can point you in the right direction. Little Rock chapter has some great members,i am from Tn and been to their banquets many times. i have hunted Colorado for elk since 1987, the only time i used an outfitter was a drop camp. this was big mistake, checked references and even though we killed 2 raghorns and 1 cow out 4 people it was not because of the outfitter. rode horses for 8 hours to a drop camp only to find out the tent and supplies were under about 4 feet of snow. that was only the start, not enough space to tell the rest. RMEF members would be your best bet.

There are good outfitters and bad. They sure can't control the weather. Check references before signing up.
Last year, it was torrential rain in Sept. Two years ago, a sheep rancher let 3000 head of sheep get away from them and they were scattered in a 10 mile x 10 mile area. Outfitters couldn't nothing about the rain or sheep.
I am a strictly DYI hunter and don't use an outfitter, but when I reccomend one, they are top notch.

You should really think the 2 on 1 deal. I'm a guide and I wouldn't (on a large private land deal with lots of opportunities they can work out fine) recommend those unless hunting together is a MAJOR part of the deal. Usually a 1 on 1 only costs a little more especially relative to all the other expenses.
