I haven't tried the great plains in my .504s. One way to find out though, buy a pack and send them downrange! I did shoot some 405 grain Black Belts through my Whitetail and had good results.

I shoot the 425 Great Plains out of my .540 White with very good results. I'm talking one hole groups at 75 Yards.

I just like the price on them. Wish they made on over 400 gr.

? Price wise ($13 per 20 at Cabelas) they're more expensive than White or No Excuses at $25 per 50.

Good choice.

The 460 NE shoots very well in my 451. They are probably absurd overkill for whitetail, but far more accurate & reliable performance than many other options.

If you are looking for boringly consistant performance under 125 yards, I doubt you'll be disappointed. If you are looking for frozen rope trajectory, not so much.

I've taken deer from 20 to 200+ yards with them, using from 60 grains FF to 80 grains FFF, small tasty does and some fairly decent bodied deer. No real difference. Most drop at the shot. Some run 40 yards with a blood trail you could see from space. Eat up to the hole unless you hit "heavy" bone. Will punch through a deer at any angle.

One small doe hit through the lungs broadside at 30 yards ran a couple hundred yards, ruining my yards-to-recovery average. Go figure.

I also had the 490's and shooting deer or targets under 175 yards dont notice any difference.

460NE is a no brainer for the Whites.

Nice post, to add to it..

You guys thinkin that the heavy flat noses are for short range should read thru this.. Keeping with the theme of the thread, it was done with a whites.

I'm building up a renegade with a green mountain LR hunter barrel to do the same, i'm casting my own bullets from a Lee 500 S&W mould, trying to get paper patching thickness and alloy hardness to where i want it at the moment. No excuses are close, but too soft IMO,but having moulds and a lead pot makes it easy to be picky.

They made a Roger Raglin autographed special edition Whitetail model. Saw one come up on Gunbroker not too long ago.

Hello Horsefly,
What kind of accuracy did you achieve with it so far ? There is a Reciever Sight that's much smaller and is contained just on top of the barrel, but it does not have the adjustment range that the Williams has . For target & sight -in the Aperature is fine ,But for hunting you want to just unscrew it right out of there.

I looked at the receiver sight I don't know if it has the adjustment, or if the front sight will have to be changed for a taller one. Accuracy is good but for load work up it have only shot 50 yards, getting about a 2in group.

Yes ,With most Receiver (PeeP) sights ,a taller front sight is necessary to bring the POI down.
2" at 50yd would be all I could do with that little V notch

I didn't see anyone post much on the rear sights for White's. The Lyman 57 SME or SMET is a great rear peep sight that can be dialed in to whatever range you want to shoot. I've not had a chance to shoot mine yet but I've seen several other forums with experienced White shooters that use this rear adjustable sight with great success.
