I saw two 99's this morning at a local gun club.

A 1956 (boss 13F) EG in .300 in pristine condition EXCEPT for the sling swivels and the lightly scratched numbers (last four digits for further ID) under the receiver and on the lever. The guy selling said that it was his BIL and may not have had a box of shells throught it. 435$

A 248xxx G in .300 with a .410 barrel, marbels tang sight.
Re-finished, re-blued (every thing), recoil pad and studs.
The .300 barrel had an after market front sight. 650$

I have enough rats, I passed.

The 410 barrels are going for $350 to $550 alone, you could still sell the gun for $450 to $600 around here. John

Nope. I saw 'em; told the guy he could get a few hundred for the .410 barrel; he knew someone that had a "box" for them - think he meant case. Probably could have gotten the EG for $400 (nice case hardening); small show but I always wind up with something.

$435 isn't a bad price for a shooter EG around here, but I do hate stuff scratched into the blue. Woulda passed on both of 'em also Rick, but I'll guess he'll probably end up selling for close to what he's asking.

Perchbelly, I walked right past you when you were eyeballin that EG, you were just getting the numbers on the belly of the receiver pointed out to you as I walked past. I am going to start saying "24hourcampfire" when I start seeing people checking savages. I also was thinking hard on the 300 takedown with the 410 barrel. That gun was so dicked with it wasn't even funny. Did you notice the Ruger 10/22 type front barrel band/sight thing that was strapped on the 300 barrel??That did it for me. I would have bought it if it wasn't for that.I think I remember what you look like. I'll say hey the next time. I had a camo pocket t-shirt and camo Dale Earnhart ball cap on in case you may have seen me.Mark.

bd65,
Is my bellie soo perched that you believe it was me?
If you were walking with your SISTER, I may have noticed you!
That's a good discription of the front sight on the .300 barrel.
I'm a glutton for a 99, that EG was SWEEEET except for the scratches, another shooter rat with the swivels already there, who knows, it may be a shooter that groups better than mad_dog's tang safety. I've got the seller's ph#, if I don't blow my wad this weekend on Griswold frying pans, I'll see if it's still available.
Next time say hello.

remember this...when you buy shi_ ,that has issues, when something good comes along you're either spent or faced with
disposal of the ugly duck yourself, and the market doesn't like
crap

That's about as much plain truth as most folks can digest.. or as CF sez.. condition X 3.. Trust me, there are always more guns heading your way.

Ya that was you Msavage. I am a PSU guy and thats what I noticed. I walked out of there with a box of 30-30 once fired brass to feed my new 99A. $2.00. Did you guys happen to find the other flea market at the sportsman club down the road north on 48 towards Monroeville. I found two really nice Savage Butt plates and some other junk I had to have.

bd65,
Ya I'm going, I've been talking about this aution at work for the last three weeks so managment know's that I'm not going to punch the clock. I found out about it by reading the Horse Trader. Better get their early for a front row seat, it's gonna be a big one, I packin the Gortex just in case.
I'll be the one bidding big on that #2.

Should we give the link and let let the world know where we are going and what the Winchesters look like?

Cube and Lauren,
You guy's are absolutely correct.
As I said earlier, I'm a glutton for a 99. Got my first one about 1980 and have aquired a few since, I've got shooters, no safe queens.
My thanks to those on this forum that have educated me about condition.
I going to get a T-Shirt made with an open lever 99 reciever with the caption, CONDITION X 3 (thanks CF) to remind me.

Perchbellie,

Bet you could make a few dollars selling shirts like that here on the campfire if your serious about having someone do up the artwork.

I want to be the first guy to place an order. I would get 3 shirts if you can get them in different colors.

I am not going, and NO. I've got a date with a SRC in 30-30 on that day. I hope its worth the $200 asking price.
