Thanks to a distinguished member here at the 'fire I recently acquired the 99 in .250 I've wanted for so long. My eyes and buck horn sights don't get along anymore and I had intended to mount a scope in a no-drill mount, But this little rifle is so nice to carry as it is that I'm rethinking the scope idea.

I still do pretty well with peep sights so I've decided to go that route if I can find the right one.

I'm hoping the experts here can tell me which peep sights will work with the original front sight. I'd prefer to stay with a vintage style sight if possible.

Any particular sights to avoid? Any in particular better for hunting purposes?

Thanks, Allen

You need a Redfield 70 or 80 or a Lyman 56 or 57.

Somebody here may have one to sell you.

How are the current Williams peep sights? They catalog one for the modern ones with the tang safeties. I presume they mount to the two rear scope mount holes?

Yep, that's where they mount but I'd opt for one of the Redfield or Lymans, they make a peep for the tang safety models as well.

Do they still make them? I have one rifle with a Redfield and one with a Lyman like what you're talking about, but Lyman's site didn't list one. Didn't think to try Redfield.

I don't know if they still manufacture them still but you still see them hit auction sites from time to time and at better prices than the tang mounted peeps because not a lot of people look for the rear scope hole mounted peeps.

The two I mentioned that I have attach in the tang holes on older ones. I'm considering a peep instead of a scope on my .358, I'll keep looking around. Maybe one of these Williams would be good.

Don't let anyone kid you the Williams will do everything the Redfields and the Lymans will do but most opt for the steel good solid Redfields and Lymans over the aluminum Williams sights.

I've got a Lyman SB right here beside me and it's just a well manufactured sight just holding it in my palm. You can feel the weight and strength in it. Not looking at selling it, just saying.
