There is a chance that my wife and I will be planning a vacation with my two boys (7 and 11) to the Eastern Cape part of South Africa to go on a game watching Safari as the highlight.

The safari will be a three night thing at one of the luxurious game lodges but if we are going down we plan to be doing a 10-14 day trip considering the airfare will be about $2k per person.

I'd like to see if there is a chance that I can throw in a short hunting trip to give me a a taste for plains game hunting in Africa. It would have to be a three to four day trip as well, have great accommodations, guides etc. and most importantly have the ability for my family to enjoy the time at the lodge doing other things while I hunt if they don't wish to accompany me (my wife really isn't excited about hunting at all).

I'd appreciate any personal recommendations you have of PHs and lodges in the area that might fit the bill.

Also would appreciate recommendations on what else we ought to see in that area. Perhaps a visit to Cape Town?

Myself and hunting partners will be making our second trip in June to hunt with Andrew Renton and Kei River Safaris. I'd have zero problems taking my wife and boys along with me, and my wife is a non-hunter as well. Andrew and Sharyn will make you feel right at home!

Wade Derby is Andrew's booking agent here in the US. Give Wade a call and see what Andrew and crew could offer you and your family.

You need to attend this event in Toronto. You can meet many outfitters in person. I found it helped a lot in helping me make my decision. My wife and I will be in the Eastern Cape from May 13-29 this year. We will be spending a few days at the Morgan Bay Hotel http://www.morganbayhotel.co.za/
before I go hunting with Patrick and the wife goes touring/spa treatments/shopping with Jennifer. Believe it or not, my wife may be more excited than I am.

I hunted with Vic and Lindsay at Karoo Wild Safaris last September http://www.karoowildsafaris.co.za/ and couldn't have had a better time. The accommodations and people are great.

The trip through Addo Elephant park is a must do.

+1 My family and I loved Addo Elephant park. Remember to bring binos for your whole family or yours will quickly become theirs and you won't see a thing grin. If you have a couple extra days, stay at one of their lodges on the premises. We met a couple doing so and they said they woke up to Cape buffalo that morning just 20 yards from their porch! How cool is that? Kevin
