I think RL-17 a bit fast for the .257 Bee.

When I was working with one, RL-25 gave the best performance. Now with RL-33 on the market, that may be an option. As you probably know, it's made by the same Swiss company, NitroChemie, that makes RL-17 and reportedly RL-33 has some of those same progressive burn characteristics. I've read some good reports from .264 WM users, and I would try some in the .257 Wby, if I still had one.

Ditto.

You wont find data for the 257WBY using Bullseye or Unique, either. For much the same reasons i.e. it/they are not a good match.

Reloader 22 is your friend in the .257

Re17 works wherever 4350 works. It may not be the absolute fastest but it will work and just might give fine accuracy. With the speed of a 257 wby not everyone needs the last 100 fps.

In 85 to 100 grain bullets you should see velocities in excess of reloader 22 or 25. In heavier bullet weights the slower powders will do better though reloader 17 may be worth a try up to 110 grain bullet.

Nosler lists 4350 as the most accurate powder w/the 110 accubond in 257 wby. No reason to think re17 won't perform. If you have lots of re17 on hand have at it!

I'd give it a try with light bullets. I have some 85 & 75 grain bullets loaded up with it for my 25-06. Haven't had a chance to shoot them yet. Still, I would think it a smidge fast for the Bee.

. I'm in agreement with testing it... I have found this powder to be excellent in a 25-06,30-06,243....will be trying it in my 257 roy

I had excellent results with RL 17 in a 270win with 110 ttsx like many others have. It suprises me that nobody has tested this yet...thinking a 100 grain could possibly get into the 3,800 range. I'll be testing RL 17 in my 7mm rem mag with 140gr as soon as its not -60 out. If it does well in my 7, I have no reason to believe it won't do well in a 257.

Debates always welcome...

the burn rate is pretty close to imr 4350 which has been used in the 257 with great results. My uses 4350 and the 100 grain interlock for 3520fps. Also uses the 4350 and the 80 grain x for close to 4000 fps.

I would be surprised if you got less than those speeds with the reloader 17. Some of the older books say that you can go to 3600 with the 4350 so I'd be surprised if you couldn't get there with the reloader 17.

I never used light bullets in my .257 Wby. I should have pointed that out with my earlier post. To me it's a deer and antelope rifle, thus my position on just using slow powder.

My best load was with 115 gr. Bergers and 71.2 gr. RL-25, COAL 3.360".

I agree on being a deer and antelope rifle, but would stil make a heck of a coyote/wolf rig. I'm hoping 100 grain and up will do better than rl22.
