I got a chance to shoot my first AR, a nifty Daniel Defense V7, yesterday. I decided I simply can't stand the creepy 7.5 pound trigger pull. I'm sure it's just the thing for a battle rifle, but I'm too wimpy to get much joy out of it. Strong Side Tactical has a sale on drop-in CMC 3 pound single-stage triggers, so I ordered one. Am I a bad person?

I have a Geissele SD-C in all my ARs, and if they would make them for the Winchester M70 I'd have a Geissele two stage in those too.

3lb's is a little light for me for a single stage in an AR. But, CMC triggers have been around for a while and seem to make custimers happy. Im sure you will enjoy it.

I am also a Geissele user. They are in all my precision AR's.

It depends if you like a single stage trigger or a 2 stage trigger. 75% of the shooting I do is with a bolt gun and 25% with an AR. I would NEVER consider a 2 stage on a bolt gun so I much prefer a single stage on an AR also. The CMC is a good trigger that you will love and is night and day better than the stock one, I prefer the JP fitted trigger but is a PITA to install.
If you dont shoot bolt guns much then you might like a 2 stage on your AR then the geissele is the way to go.

I have a couple M70's and the only trigger IMO is a Jewell smile

I've been shooting bolt guns for 35 years. I have certain expectations of what a trigger should feel like. I can tolerate the newer Remington M700 triggers, but I prefer the adjustability of the older ones. It's pretty rare that I leave the trigger "as is".

maybe bump the gun on its butt a few times unloaded to make sure the 3 pound SS won't go on its own, but I am sure its fine.

I've been shooting bolt guns with single stage triggers, pistols from Glock, S&W, STI, Ruger, Browning, even single and DAO revolvers for years. I've had quite a few different AR triggers as well and much prefer the 2 stage trigger in an AR. It's mostly about the design.

Multiple trigger types abound, give me the safest, lightest trigger that suits the type of gun. Which on an AR is a 2 stage. Anyone else know of a 1 lb single stage they trust in an AR?

I saw an AR Gold turned down to pound and a half with no issues for its user, but he ain't normal. He never had an issue with it, but that was a match-only rifle/3-gun.

Getting a 1 pound trigger to work doesn't bother me as much as getting it to not go auto on my just from the rocking motion when firing.

its definitely a range trigger at 1 pound, I am not sure I would trust myself in the real world with a 1 pound trigger.

I am scratching my head but OK? 1 pound trigger in single stage would be awful light!

IMO if you can stage a trigger its much less dependent on how light it is. to me 3# triggers in bolt guns are on the heavy side. however with an AR 15 IMO you can better shoot a heavy trigger than you can with a standard hunting rifle. I have the geissele high speed match trigger in one of my ar 15's it has a 2# first stage and approx a 12 oz second stage. simply aim at the target take up the first stage and hold it, then squeeze off that last 12 oz. after a few shots with this trigger I was saying holy $hit to myself. I feel I can shoot this trigger better than any bolt gun I have ever shot. that includes jewel and tuned remington triggers. I think I would prefer the trigger be a bit heavier to be honest, but in fairness the last time I took that gun out I was shooting a factory ar 15 trigger that pulled 8# right before I started shooting this gun.

Exactly. I hear folks saying they don't like two stage triggers and prefer a crisp light single stage but the AR has a lot going on inside and a light single stage is dangerous. That brings us to the two stage.

Plenty of surface material contacting to keep things from slipping off, a 2 or 3lb take up and add one more lb to break the wall and release the hammer. Full powered springs ensure the hardest primers will ignite.

I admit I'm new to ARs, but I don't understand why a two stage trigger with a 2 pound first stage and a 1 pound second stage is safer than a 3 pound single stage - assuming the disconnector is working properly on both.

Because the length of travel for the two stage is longer.
