No it really isn't that bad Bill.

I saw -29 overnight, about -25 this morning and I suppose it probably flirted around the -30 mark at it's coldest this morning. We do have a bit of wind out of the north west though so that makes it less fun.

Looks like we might warm up before the weekend, wow that would be nice for ice fishing.

-27 was the worst here. I really enjoyed my commute today....from the dining room to my office is about 18 steps!

I was really looking forward to one of NDs pictures of his car thermometer reading -40! I forgot to do the boiling water thing last night. Good thing we have another night of this.... confused

Truck said -29* on my way to work. It warmed up to -25* by the time I got here. Some dude's got a noisy azz diesel running right outside my office window. He works in the shop so I assume it will run all day long. Oh well, I would run it too if I had a diesel.

"Polar Vortex" must be the politically correct term for "[bleep] Cold".

Still minus 25* at 10:35 AM. Went out and started both cars. Took the Edge out for a coffee run. Sure is dead out. Even the Kwik Trip was empty.

I just took some loads of stuff over to a storage unit. It really isn't that bad out right now.

As a bonus, my wife is no longer laughing at my "poor fashion sense" she says I had when I got some Riggs Workwear Thinsulite lined jeans.....

My grandpa used to plow the roads in Red Lake County in northern MN in the 40's with a grader that had a big V plow with a wing. His son, my uncle, would follow behind with the dump fulla gravel with another wing mounted to it. They could do a pretty good job in one pass of the road.

Well one morning at 4:00am it was -50 below actual and that old diesel grader's fuel was gelled up again and the roads were drifted shut. So gramps threw some wood under the old beast with a splash of diesel and lit a fire to warm it up. About 5 minutes later he's yelling to my grandma, mom, and sisters, "Girls! Get up! The grader's on fire!" So my mom and my aunts who ranged from 12 to 2 tried filling buckets with water from the old hand pump in the kitchen and running them outside, sloshing all the way. The water froze hard on the kitchen floor, steps, and outside to the point they couldn't even stand up anymore. Gramps got the fire knocked down enough with water and shoveled snow to get the rig running up and driven off the fire - not too much worse for wear. The kids and grandma? Not so much. My old Norwegian grandma gave him hell about that for 50 years.

We still laugh about it. I bet gram and gramps would get a real good chuckle out of this "Polar Vortex".
