Just a friendly reminder to you folks that according to Paypal policy, you can't purchase firearms. What that means is if something goes astray with the payment, the seller is screwed. It happens all too often.

Knuckleheads cruise these forums and try to press good people into accepting payment via Paypal with an "Urgency" scam.

Best of luck!

Do you have a link to any of these "urgency" scams here? Please post them.

If I use Paypal for any purchase, and something goes wrong, I simply dispute it with my credit card company. I have used Paypal for issues and they did in fact resovle it. But they are not your only option. Credit card companies love you, because if you carry a balance you pay their salary!

The only time I had a problem with a purchase using PayPal it was such a hassle trying to go thru PayPal I just called my credit card company and it it resolved within 15 minutes. You get no real protection with any other method of payment.

Not sure how this makes sense. PayPal isn't just going to take your money away because a "scammer" tells them they bought something and didn't receive it, etc. PayPal is just as likely to tell the scammer tough luck for trying to buy a firearm with PayPal or force them to prove they did not receive the item they payed for. I had an issue with a transaction on PayPal once and they were very thorough in resolving the situation. Scammers will scam no matter what the currency used is.

I was once the seller in a $800 ammo transaction where the buyer insisted he pay with paypal. I warned him of the rules and he tried to skate around them.

Long story short- he sent the money, paypal didn't release it to my account because they flagged it as a questionable transaction and "investigated" for about 10 days. It finally worked out, but me and the buyer were very careful about providing paypal with the answers they needed to hear.

My PSA for the day: be careful with requesting sending "discreet" paypal payments.

So, Johnnyloco, where are these scammer posts you refer to? Still no links?

As I spend half my time working overseas, paying by US Postal Money Order is often not an option. Pay Pal is by far the best way to go in my situation.

There is nowhere in the process where I have to say what the money is for, or what I'm buying. I always pay the fees, and usually add a bit for shipping (to Alaska) because I know it can run a bit more than the lower-48.

Why do people say PayPal is anti gun? Any evidence they are proactively supporting the gun control lobby? Is EBAY anti gun? There are lots of gun parts bought and sold on EBAY everyday. In fact, EBAY has categories for reloading, gun parts, hunting, scopes, etc. And EBAY owns PayPal. Any chance PayPal (which is based in one of the most anti gun states in the country - California) is trying to limit their liability? We all know there are thousands of lawyers out there that would love to trace a firearm used in a homicide back to a PayPal purchase. Until someone can show me evidence that PayPal is supporting the anti gun lobby I won't even consider the notion they are anti gun. And back to the original point of this post, scammers will scam no matter what the currency.

Hey fella, you do business with folks who tell you what you can do with your money whether the reasoning is liability or liberalism...I ain't.

That accepting attitude is exactly why our constitutional rights are getting flushed down the toilet.

By the way, the buyer has more to lose in this particular scam so beware of that too.

Hey, if you want to get involved against policy, its your call. I'm not trying to debate the severity or variables of scammers.

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/helpcenter/article/?solutionId=38957

Fact of the matter is, there are folks so desperate to buy or sell, they often overlook stuff like policy.

Any individual can set themselves up to directly take a credit card, by way of a smartphone app, with Square. I dropped my expensive and clunky Bank of America business merchant account two years ago to switch to taking cards with Square. Fantastic and trouble free, and you don't need to be a business to use it.
