I'm looking for new scope for Ruger 77/17 17hmr. Looking to improve on current Nikon 2-7. I was thinking a higher power and maybe fine duplex and adjustable objective. I plan to use it on crows. Thoughts? 100y zero? I will be walking with rifle and shooting from various positions.

I have a Leupold fine duplex AO 4-12X on mine ... one of the "varmint" versions of the 77/17. I think you can get that same scope with CDS now.

edit to add: I sight mine in somewhere between 75 and 100 yards. I don't shoot it a lot past 100 yards. Groups run between 3/4 inch and 1 inch at 100 yards depending on ammo. No change of zero needed when switching brands, bullet styles, or bullet weights.

Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a Mbius strip.

I went with a 4.5-14X40 on mine. It works good and they make a funky gunmetal colored scope that matches the 77/17 very nicely.

when i had my M77/17 i had a 4-12x40 AO 3200 Elite on it in fine duplex and thought it was a perfect match. go for what ever brand you decide but i wouldn't push it above a 12x on the high end as i just don't see a need for the distance you will be using the 17HMR at.

This one intrigues me - how do you like it, huntsman? Would you make that same choice again? I've run 2-7's up to 4.5-14's on my 17HMR but it currently sits scopeless and is in need...

I've also heard the Burris FFII 3-9 w/ ballistic plex reticle works well ont he 17HMR but haven't used it myself.

I like it fine. Once I got used to the 'busy-ness' of the reticle. It's spot-on, all the way out. I wish it was a tad more, like 12 or 14x

Ran a 6 x 24 Weaver on mine for a while... it gives you too much temptation to try and shoot further than the round is reliable at... even if it is just sage rats...

I replaced that with a 3 x 9 Bushnell with a mil dot reticle...while the mildot is handy, like H22, a 12 to 16 power on the top end would be more handy a lot of the times....
