They have two new hunting scope to unveil at SHOT, saw them at Dallas safari Club today. Kinda like NXS starter scopes. Great optics as usual, just no bells and whistles. $1000 mark.

Thanks,

That thing will flop, pretty disappointed. I'd rather see the 2.5-10x42 with capped windage. 56mm is their "hunting scope" intro? come on

I also went to the DSC show for a couple of days. I wandered by a booth where they had a new NF 82mm spotter on a tripod. I fiddled with it for a short while and was very impressed. I then noticed that, minus the obvious cosmetic (armoring) differences, this spotter is a dead ringer for the Meopta S2, only at a few hundred $$$ higher. I also spent a considerable amount of times with the head cheese (great guy, very knowledgeable and friendly) of Meopta, who was in the EuroOptics booth. When I told him this, all he would do is smile, but would not/could not deny . It's obvious Meopta makes this NF spotter. The Meopta S2 is a killer scope. Sorry for the hijack.

I am really disappointed and surprised NF is even bothering with a 56mm version of that scope. who is is marketed to night hunters?? ALOT of the crowd NF markets to is very group think type people and pack mentality. I have a theory that they are using lesser glass quality ( BTW thats ok by me) 56mm will make up for it a little bit. my theory is they don't want the first word out there and the first reviews to be negative on the glass quality. release this model first, get good reviews on it, then come out with a 50mm version. anyone want to guess the ratio of 50 mm vs 56mm scopes they sell?? I would think its probably 3-4 times more 50 mm units. heck a 40mm version would probably be the best as a hunting scope. I am not one that is ubber worried about glass quality in my scopes. the regular NXS is plenty good for any legal hours hunting and beyond. I mostly care about rock solid adjustments.

JG I agree that NF scopes is just a fancied up meopta S82. what did you think of the scope compared to swaro's latest and greatest.

seems like more of an entry level scope marketed towards their current demogrpahic. not really a 'hunting' scope looking to break into a new marketshare.

Well I obviously couldn't get outside with them, so I looked through all of the primo stuff into the darkest nooks and crannies of the ceiling that I could. I could do that all at the EuroOptics booth (Alex Roy is the "go to" optics guy IMO) The 90 or 95mm Swaro modular thing is unreal, but I would not ever spend that much $ on a spotter. I thought the Meopta was better than anything else in the building, including the Leica, Swaro 80, and newer Zeiss 85 with the dual speed focuser. I was so impressed with the S2, I will own one, guarnateed. I am very impressed with Meopta's line of optics all the way around. I am equally impressed with the guy running the show there, who I visited with for almost an hour. He knows his stuff inside and out, and is a hunter and shooter himself. The reason we're just now really hearing about Meopta (past couple of years or so), is that they were the OEM for several high end lines of optics (for the big boys). Those contracts have expired, so Meopta is really pushing for a position at or near the top of the USA sport optics market. They make all of their own stuff, including the glass, coatings, everything.

thats been my thoughts on that S2 spotter, its not actually too terribly large for an 80mm, of course if you are interested in that S2 don't pay retail for it, there is ways around that. the rest of meoptas line for me is just a tad short on eye relief for the binoculars. swaro is also tuff to beat with binoculars. I had also heard meopta was making glass or parts for other big names in the past.

I truly think this scope is for the "bubba who just won the lottery" crowd.

The guy who is going to buy a single shot 50 BMG and shoot ball ammo at a burnt up car body in the local rock quarry/babymaking spot from a distance of no more than 300 yards (300 yards = 1 mile in bubba land). He needs a Nightforce, because his 50 is a sniper rifle and everybody knows snipers use Nightforce.

The 56mm objective is so it will shoot better at night. crazy

The new NF 2.5x10x42 seems like a nice scope but is still a little pricey!
