As I recently posted, I scored a glock 23 .40 recently for a decent price.

Now I have it....

And...

I'm finding it very hard to love.

Do I need to shoot it to like it? I mean, is that where the magic is?

I'm not feelin it.

Don't ask me, I sold my G23 and bought a Springfield XD. Much better feeling and looking gun (for a plastic gun), IMO.

I keep telling myself it was a good deal.

lol.

Holy [bleep] this thing is ugly.

I picked a hell of a way to try to break myself of my plastic gun hatred.

laughing!

I guess I have to be realistic, there's no such thing as a pretty plastic hand gun.

Right?

Dave, it was dirt ass cheap, get over it.

There is no magic in any handgun.

If it's like the 23 I sold, you might find some beauty in it's function. Mine was super reliable. Kind of a "pretty is as pretty does" proposition.

That seems to be the pattern. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Shooting it doesn't seem to do it for me though. But I don't have to like it for it to be a good gun.

They are ugly, and feel like a brick to me, but they go bang every time and are very easy to hit with. Thats the beauty of a Glock. Of course my SIG experience is the same regarding reliability and accuracy, with better handling and less of the ugliness.

I must be missing something - did you buy a Glock so you could post pictures of it? A Glock is something to shoot. The "beauty" of a Glock is that it works.

Now there was a time when Glock was pretty much alone in the field of "working" guns. Nowadays there are some pretty good alternatives. But that G23 is still the lightest, shootable, 10+ round,40S&W available for ~$500. And a heck of a good finish too.

I'm partial to the Glock 23! Great firearm for it's intended use! Take it apart and clean it, then practice dry firing the heck out of it. Learn the trigger "reset" method and then Glock On!

PS. Replace the factory sights with Trijicons or Mepros!

If you are an old 1911 guy, you will never warm up to a Glock's grip. That can be reshaped. Its only money, or time, as that is a DIY proposition for the bold.

I am more of a Smith & Wesson M/P guy for my plastic guns. With that said, right from the jump a good set of sights and better trigger will help tremendously. Glock factory plastic sights are too short and fat for precise shooting and the staple gun trigger needs a tweak. The good news is both of those are easily fixed.

It's one of the more reliable service sidearms and it's relatively inexpensive, but there's little appealing about it besides that.

I much prefer the XDs and M&Ps over the Glocks.....just as reliable and much more enjoyable to shoot

I was thinking trijicon.

Do I have to pack it full of sand, run it over with the truck, throw it off a cliff and soak it in salt water before shooting it?

Or is that optional?

crazy

Glock's are like the old lady at the corner diner.

You sure aren't thinking of riding horses into the sunset on the beach with her, while "I had the time of my life" plays in the background.

But she'll always have your usual coffee and sammich waiting when you walk in the door.

All the time.

If I'm going to send you to hell, the last thing you should see on this earth should be ugly.

Between my Glock and my face I've got that requirement covered.

About the kindest thing you can say about a Glock's appearance is that it's ugly.

I like nice guns, I really like nice guns. I've a Glock 20, however, and there's something very fundamental and efficient about it. With regard to handguns, it is, in my perspective, about the simplest, most straight forward way to put a 180 grain XTP RIGHT THERE (when RIGHT THERE is 60, 70, 80 yards out),RIGHT NOW, that I have found.
