This Ruger Tang Safety model appears to be bedded full length. Is that OK? Is there a better way?
Thank You, for any information on this perplexing, to me, issue. Smitty of the North

Here's how I had my 77 Mk II VT bedded : The (pinkish) bedding material supports the action fully.
Andre -------------------------------------- 3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact. 5 shots are a group.

Alot of people do full length (assuming you're meaning the barrel and action) bed Rugers. I guess because Rugers come from the factory with the pressure point under the barrel, they think bedding the barrel is the best for accuracy.
I have bedded several, and all have had improved accuracy - this by bedding the tang area, the area around the recoil lug (similar to Andre's above), and bedding the chamber portion of the barrel. I then free float the rest of the barrel.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a Boyds that I am working on. Should I have the barrel completely free? It is a 338WM and was not sure how much to sand off around the barrel.
Good Shooting!

Have you shot it as it is? If not, you might want to before you float it. That's what I would do anyway - I always like to see before & after results. You might find that it shoots more accurate with the barrel fully bedded - at least more loads more accurately. If you are going to work up hand loads for it, it SHOULD be more accurate floated . . . in my experience anyway.
As far as how much to remove, I like to remove enough to pass a business card between the stock and the barrel.

So Andre how tight of a fit is the factory Ruger stock to the barrel? Could you take a photo of the whole stock from above for me? You only bedded the lug right? Thanks a million!
Good Shooting!

No, the whole action is bedded, from recoil lug to and including tang. See the pinkish epoxy layer. The bull barrel is left (completely and generously) full floating in front of the recoil lug.
