I'm not trying to be difficult. I just don't get why an eighth inch of spongey take up makes it safer. Simply declaring it to be true isn't doing it for me.

It is still a three pound trigger. Snipers use the term, "stacking weight" on a trigger. You are never supposed to know/anticipate when the rifle is supposed to go off. The two-stage allows you to "rush" through the first portion, 2# in this case, and start "stacking weight". That is when you let the last bit of air out and just let it happen.

Once upon a time I could do good work with a 4.5# M-21(M14) trigger.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply Take a knee. I see the appeal. I'll buy one soon, undoubtably. I admire your skill, past or present, with an M14.

The design as is, has a built in angle that when you pull the trigger, it actually pushes the hammer back before the sear releases. That is there for safety. The 2 stage trigger was designed to overcome the downfalls of the original design.

The CMC is a ton better but will never be as light or as crisp as a good 2 stage. Something that my poor skills will never be able to prove as well as just using both side by side.

Trust me... wink

It seems like half the fun of ars is getting to experiment like this. I'm sure I'll get a good two stage before long.

I installed the CMC last night. The job took about 10 minutes from first to last. The let off is pretty crisp and right at 3 pounds on my gauge. There is a little bit of over travel, which is probably unavoidable. What a huge change from the original, though. I can't wait to shoot on Saturday.

I got sucked into time consuming competing obligations. I'm probably booked for a few more days. Thanks for asking.

Any thoughts on the Timney 3# trigger? I am going to do something with mine. My factory trigger breaks at 9#. I just bought an upper with a 16" bull barrel and hope to make it a shooter, but it will never happen with that trigger.

For now I want a single stage as that is what I am used to. All my bolts have Rifle Basics 2 1/2# triggers and 2 of my targets have Jewels set at 18 oz. I am very comfortable with all of them.

Just wondering if anyone has used the timneys.

I have had two of the Timneys. They were pretty nice.
I have since replaced them with Geissele's though.

89tenbus, I too love a lite single stage trigger on my bolt guns! I did not think I would like a two stage at all, "WAS I WRONG" I gave in and put a Geissele SSA-E in my AR and what a pleasure.

I was same when I was forced to run a 2 stage for a certain competition...

Anyone that doens't like a 2 stage or says they can't get used to it, has simply never used a good one.

I swap back and forth all the time without issues.

because they have never compared maybe?

I bought single stage ARGold, installed it, shot it, sent it back, but I still have two SSA-E triggers. I like the RRA trigger as well, I think that is one of the bad 2 stage ones also.
