I have not loaded for an AR, in fact only owned one until recently. If I recall a 75 gr hornady boat tail hollow point will not have the ogive seated into the case when loaded to function in a magazine. That is correct isn't it?

You will not have any loading issues at mag length with the HPBT.

It's the Amax that the ogive is below the case mouth at mag length though a couple here shoot them like that anyway.

I never could get great accuracy with their HPBT at max speed. Rost said he always had to back them off too. I prefer the 77 gr SMK or Nosler custom comp bullets in that order when looking for accuracy and speed.

75 H bthp do not perform for me when run at max pressure for some reason.

They do not have an ogive issue at 2.250.

75 amax do. But its never been a concern at 2.250, having shot some unbelievable 300 yard rapid fire scores at Camp Perry to boot, with the 75 amax at mag length. Almost shot a 10x clean there once... except I called one out at 12 and one out at 7.... and they were, less than half an inch out...not bad for irons from a service rifle in rapid fire.

Oh yeah, I'm with TWR, for speed, 77 smk or 73 berger, both hold up to pressure.

I have no trouble getting decent accuracy out of the Hornady 75gr HPBT at around 2700fps from an 18" Noveske barrel. This load is close to book max pressures and gives me solid MOA accuracy. If I want better accuracy I have to go to the Sierras in 77gr or 69gr.

According to my notes, I got 2738 fps 5 shot average and a 1.43 5 shot group with my 16" Noveske. I went up a half a grain and got 2780 fps with a 1.49 group.

Same gun shoots 77 SMK's into 3/4" but maxes out at 2654. My 18" Noveske shoots 1/2" groups with the SMK's at 2761 fps.

TAC is the powder I'm using. Just for reference.
