My 5 year old son is wanting a bow to shoot with his dad!!
I don't know much about youth bows but it seems the Genesis would be nice as he should be able to shoot it for several years without outgrowing it. Let me know if you have one for sale. Thanks

Check out the new Hoyt ruckus jr too. Great kids bow highly adjustable. Complete package with sight etc for a little more than a genesis

Thanks AKpilot. I will look into it, I'm not fixed on a certain brand for him. I just don't want to buy a new bow every year.

Do you know if he is left or right eye dominant? It can be hard to figure out sometimes in kids. I have a left hand mini-genesis that is in great condition.

I don't know which is his dominate eye. He does everything right handed so I was going to start that route.

You can tell dominate eye easily by holding up 1 finger about 12" away from eyes & close 1 eye them the other. Dominate eye won't move finger but lesser eye will appear finger has moved. Good luck with your search & young archer!

Another good way is to hold a cd/DVD vertically on the tip of the nose. Have him close his eyes and open them and tell you what color he sees. (Silver or label color). That side is dominate eye.

The Genesis is a very good and robust bow. We use it for the scouts and for my archery range rental bows. Not that it's a good thing but they survive 100's of folks using them incorrectly and many have several dry fires without an issue. At that age, dependent on his size, you might also look at the Genesis Mini-bow which is smaller sized for him. With it's in-determinant draw length it makes either one able to grow with your kid and anyone in the family up to a 30 inch draw length can use it. Basically it's a recurve that you can put more stuff on.

Definitely go with a Genesis Mini at that age.
I teach archery at church with a regular Genesis, and until the boys get to around 75 pounds and 8 years old, they cannot seem to draw and hold well at all.
