I don't think I've seen this covered here before, but if you were going to order a barrel specifically for use with monolithic bullets, what would you specify? Canted lands vs. conventional? Odd number of grooves vs. even? Etc...

I read somewhere that Barnes recommended 5R rifling for use with their monolithic bullets. I don't know the reason, but supposedly it came from a conversation with a Barnes rep.

I would not bet on building a rifle around a specific bullet. Despite our best efforts it seldom works that the bullet we want to shoot will actually shoot as well as we want in any given barrel. Having built many rifles and having chosen a specific barrel maker and twist hoping they would shoot a specific bullet I was often disappointed. My point in all this, just be flexible with your bullet choices. Bill

If you are going to shoot 'banded' monolithics like the Barnes TSX or TTSX get whatever barrel you like bestI have yet to find a rifle they don't shoot well in.

I agree with Bill and ingwe. I have bought a pair of BR barrels, same lot and one built one after the other. They liked different bullets. Go figure.

Not much choice, unfortunately. Here in CA, we're restricted to lead-free bullets, but my question was not so much about one particular bullet but about lead-free bullets in general.

That seems to be about what I've heard, too, that monolithics tend to like canted lands and an odd number of grooves. I was just wondering if anyone here has noticed that effect.
