Let me have it! I can afford a $300-$400 scope but the Weaver K-4 for around $150 sounds very appealing due to the price. I'm just wondering if spending $300 for a FX-II Leupold is really going to be worth the extra $150. I'll hunt with these scope once or twice a year so it's not going to see a lot of use. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I have both the Weaver K-4 and the Leupold FXII in 4x. The Weaver is a lot of scope for the money. Is the Leupold worth twice the price? Probably not. Here are some observations.....The Weaver has the conventional Duplex reticle. The Leupold, if you get matte finish, comes with the Wide Duplex. I like both. Eye relief, measured with Mule Deer's flashlight method is.... Weaver 4", Leupold 3 1/2". Both have click adjustments. The Leupold is a smaller, trimmer scope than the Weaver. The shape of the forward bell on the Weaver can cause problems mounting on a long action but mostly with the 6x, which has less eye relief than the K4. I have to admit that I've replaced some of the Weavers with Leupold FXIIs because I like the looks of them better. Brightness and clarity, with my crude comparisons, give a slight edge to the Leupold. Two more considerations..warranty and resale value. The Leupold wins on both. Either one will do the job. The Weavers make great scopes for .22 rimfires also. I believe their parallax is set at 100 vs the Leupold's 150 yards. Hope this helps.

I too have 2 FXII 4x and a Weaver Classic K4. Go with the Weaver and buy a Leupold later if needed. I think you'll be happy with it. Don't hear very many negative comments on them at all. Another option is to look for a used Leupold M8 4x. They don't big $$ on the market.

If Weaver would redesign the front bell, there would be absolutely no reason to buy a Leupold.

Looking at them I don't see the difference in the forward bell. Can you elaborate? I'll be mounting the scope on a Savage Hog Hunter in .308. Thanks.

I wish Leupold had kept making the M-8 but with improved adjustments. There is no advantage to a bigger, bulkier scope. The 28mm objective was big enough and the field of view afforded by the smaller ocular bell was also more than adequate. GD

I prefer the weaver k6. I use it on RF and CF rifles. great in low light and I have not noticed any paralax issues. I have about 5 of them. Only one has gone back b/c cross hairs somehow rotated. Customer service was great and repair was quick.

I've got one of the newer K4's and it's a great little scope.
I've had it on the 10/22, AR15, and Rem 700 30-06 at different times.
No mounting issues here. It seems like a durable scope. Optics are quite clear and bright in my opinion.

I have only one 4 power Weaver, the K 4... and about 5 of the K6, the 6 power version...
I think they are both great scopes...
also have several of the 4 power Leupolds...
I never felt handicapped with a 4 power Weaver...

I have one newer style Weaver scope. 1x-4x variable. It is on a Rem 600 350 RM with a Kevlar stock and custom barrel. ~ 6 lb This is one of the hardest kicking rifles I own (i only shoot 250 grain loads and they are heavily liaded.) The scope is excellent in all respects, handles recoil, clear optics and no issues with adjustments.
For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths.
