Looking for a 338-06 for mule deer hunt. Interested in mauser with bolt safety or classic winchester action. Preferably something with iron sights. Anyone saw anything along these lines?

I looked at a lot of 338-06's over the last few years. I didn't see many with irons. Most are rebarrels and people don't bother with the extra expense of installing iron sights. A good option would probably be to pick up an iron sighted 30-06 and have it rebored. I've heard some good things about JES reboring.

That rebore is a good idea, going to do it with a 308 win. Would like a M7 Remington still looking though. Found a 270 win. Yesterday at a local gun shop but have plenty of 338 06 AI for now.

I have a Rem 725 re-bored from 30 to .338. She shoots nice groups. Hillbilly, if you would consider a re-barreled 338-06 Rem 700 ADL w/o irons, I have one for sale.

338-06 rifle needs a long action to -handle the length of the case. If you use a Remington Model 7 action you will need to remove the bolt to extract a loaded round. A mauser or a classic Win model 70 long action would be great with its long extractor.
