I retired from a SOF unit in 03. The stuff from Armasight I had a chance to play with last year was as good as the stuff I saw on active duty 12yr ago. I can't attest to its durability but I wouldn't think you be throwing it around.
You could not GIVE me a "night-only" dedicated scope. A day optic with an "UNS" type unit that mounts in FRONT of the day optic is the ONLY way to go. You will most likely have a slight zero shift but just record it and changing back and forth is a breeze if you have a quality repeatable day scope.
Also, unless you are watching a "point target" like a bait site, some sort of handheld night optic really makes a long sit in the dark much more pleasant. Trying to pan the far side of a 400yd field with a heavy rifle isn't too much fun. Something like a PVS-14 would be my choice, as that is a lot cheaper than googles and you can just let it hang by the neckcord when you see something and get on the gun.

Here is my Night Vision Scope . MV - 740 GENERATION 3 PINNACLE with QD Levers on the Mount. This is one of the best night scopes i have ever used . Nothing beats it for the price.

... You could not GIVE me a "night-only" dedicated scope... truer words were never spoken. i would gladly trade my night only scope to get back the countless hours of sleep i've lost hunting nocternal critters. but to be fair i really should weigh it against all the fun i've had killing a couple thousand hogs over the years. yea... maybe i'll give it away when i get so old i have to start going to bed at 8:00pm - which may be just a week or two away +1 for the 740 ps- i was hall monitor in junior high... if that makes my opinion matter more

Ar15/223, PVS14 behind an Aimpoint comp/M2. Good to go day or night.
