I'm looking at jobs online and I see a listing for a job that looks interesting, based in the Grand Junction area. I was through there about 15 years ago and liked what little I saw, but stuff changes a lot in a decade and a half. In Oregon, an area like that has about a 50/50 chance of having serious drug (meth) problems and the associated crime that comes along with it. What's Grand Junction like these days? Property values? Crazy liberal infestation? Taxes?
Thanks all.
Kurt

30 years ago, GJ was near the top of my "list" of places to move. i didn't move there, and i would be interested in the observations, IF Colorado hadn't become the Progressives "Poster State".

I've lived in the Grand Valley the last 25 years amd moved here after growing up in Fort Colliins. I like it a lot and will not move back to the Front Range. Since I'm in the east end of the valley Palisade/East Orchard Mesa I miss out on some the things that go down in the downtown GJ area. There's a significant homeless population and areas you don't want to live in. Pick the right area to in and crime will be about like anywhere else in Colorado.
The advantages of living in the Grand Valley is that you are surrounded by public lands. You'll have lots of choices of areas to camp, hunt big game, shoot etc close by. We have some of the best mountain bike trails in the US. River fishing is a hour to an hour and a half drive although a lot of people fish the many reservoirs on the Grand Mesa. It is the high desert and from mid June to late August it can be real hot, >93 F. We don't have much for weather, just hot or cold. Spring and Fall are great. Mesa County in the second most Conservative county in Colorado. PM me if you want more info.

Colorado National Monument. Pitch a tent on top of it. Walk over to the edge at night and be on eye level with airplanes that are looking to land in Fruita, Colorado. Seclusion and fantastic scenery that most people in the world know nothing about,....big mesa country. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en....0...1ac.1.32.img..0.26.2056.ulpEH0UOEGc

Might be the only place in Colorado where you can fish alone.

Good lord man, take a drive down North sometime. I lived in that town for 1.5 years and couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Nice town, HOT...felt like a blowtorch with the wind.

I used to really like GJ & the area around it, but today, I wouldn't live anywhere in CO under any circumstances.
