I have a new 25-06 on an old receiver. I have put some 100 Partitions and some 110 Accubonds through it so far, and she seems to shoot about anything well.

I am considering bullets for hunting, and some bullets for paper shooting.

Anyone have experience with the 100 Sierra Matchking for paper shooting?

For hunting, in order of price:
100 Hornady Interlock
115 Berger
110 Accubond
100 Partition
100 TTSX

I normally take a behind the shoulder shot. I like to eat the shoulders.

I shot a deer with a Barnes muzzleloader bullet in the chest this year--the deer just wouldn't turn broadside. Can I do that with a 115 Berger? 100 Interlock? I am honestly asking--I have no experience with any 25 cal bullets.

Thanks for any input.

I've shot 6 antelope and a deer with 100 gr Hornady Interlock. They've worked well, even when I hit bone. Shots have been 100-450 yards. No head-on shots, but a couple were high and hit spine. I don't think any of them required a second shot.

I should also add--game probably up to mule deer. I have a 30-06 for elk or moose (and deer).

All good choices, except I haven't used the 115 Berger's on game yet. I would try one from the top and the bottom of the list and let the rifle decide.

I use the 100 gr TTSX's in my 25-06 AI, have even hit a few deer in the shoulders, minimal meat loss, even at 3550 fps starting velocity, mean little bullet.

115 BT with Reloader 22 works great on hogs and should have no problem killing deer.

We have had good results on deer with the 110 Accubond.

After using barnes, Seirra, Hornady partitions andvaccubond in my .25-06 I settled on the 110 grain accubond. Very consistent performance from 18 yards to 270.

But what about those big bodies, armor plated deer I read about on the internet? grin

I only ask because despite 10 years of working with 30 cal bullets, I have very little time (1 month) with 25 cal bullets.

For a 30-06, I would recommend the 180 Partition. Soft enough for the small doe, tough enough for a bull elk. I wouldn't prefer to shoot a small doe with a 180 TTSX. I also haven't had as much luck as others with 180 Accubonds. I got some boxes that shot very well, and a box that hasn't shot very well. Maybe a bad batch? I find I like 155 Custom Competitions, 155 Scenars, 155 Matchkings, etc. for practice bullets. But for a 25-06 about the only choice is a 100 Matchking.

I also have no experience with Berger bullets, other than what I've read here. Some of that has been they are very good bullets if you use them as intended--to put a reasonably sized animal down quickly, but maybe not a good bullet for something like a neck shot. That's why I asked about the frontal shot--I've only shot the one deer in the chest, but it was with a Barnes MZ bullet. I wondered if the Berger 115 was a good choice for a 25-06. The Berger does have a good reputation for accuracy and BC.

Is the 115 Partition better than the 100 Partition? Or no different for my application?

Is a copper bullet (like the 100 TTSX) a good choice for small animals? Some of you may say you only want big animals, and that's fine. But yearling does taste mighty fine

Should I be looking at the 80 TTSX instead?

Is the 110 Accubond a good mix of accuracy, soft enough for small animals, tough enough for anything a 25-06 is good for?

Is all this discussion a lesson in how to waste money, and I should just use the 100 Interlock for the rest of my 25-06 barrel's life?

Joe, right now I am shooting 100 grain Serria Flat Base in my .25-06.. They are super accurate for me.. Have killed mulies, antelope, and coyotes.. The mulie took the 100 grain in the lungs and walked off 100 yards and crashed.. Very little blood trail..
I used the 115 gr. Nosler BTBT on several whitetails.. Also the 100 grain Part. Both worked fair..
Have a couple hundred 110 Accubonds, but haven't fired one at game.. On the to do list..
the 100 grain Serria HPBT Match was super accurate, and for target it would be fine.. I shot three or four jacks with it, and it just drilled holes though them with no expansion..
This is the 3rd or 4th .25-06 I have had.. I really like the caliber, but for me it is more a long range coyote rifle than anything else..
I would think the 100 grain Interlock would work for what you are looking at doing with the caliber..
As much as I like the .25-06, I am not real wild about shooting big game with it.. I don't have the faith in it for that some folks have... It is accurate, mild recoil, flat traj., but for me it doesn't anchor big game at longer ranges the way I want.. Others don't have that problem..

I've used the 100 Cor-lokt, Barnes 100 tsx,100 ttsx, 100 ballistic tip, 110 accubond and 115 Berger in both the 25-06 and 25-06 Ackley they have worked very well on deer. About half the time they drop at the shot not to get up again. Never had one run more than fifty yards the other times. I did have the first generation of the Ballistic tip fail on on a perfect shot on a black bear. Switched to the Barnes tsx after that and had no issues.

I am now using the 115 Berger out of 25-06 Ackley and had some concern about close range performance due the thin jacket of the Berger and the high starting velocity of the Ackley. Three years ago I shot a decent mule deer buck at less than fifty yards. He was quartering away hard and I put the Berger in near the third rib from the rear. The deer did not drop at the shot but just took a few drunken side steps and tumbled over. The bullet only hit one lung due to the angle and near total fragmentation of the Berger. A Barnes certainly would have clipped the forward portion of the offside lung and may have lodged in the offside shoulder or perhaps even exited. That being said, I have NEVER seen the kind of destruction to a lung that the Berger caused. The lung vaporized! The offside lung and heart were perfectly preserved, but the near side lung was GONE! I looked for pieces of the lung but none were recognizable. I'll let you draw your own conclusions whether or not you want to use the Berger at close range.

I stiil use the Berger 115 VLD and it has worked well . I like the higher bc for the yardages I typically shoot and will continue to use it until Hornady comes out with a .257 AMAX or I switch to a 6.5 or 7mm for my primary deer rifle.

I've taken many antelope with two 25-06s. My favorite bullets are the 100 grain TSX/TTSX, the 100 grain Ballistic Tip, and the 110 grain Accubond. They have all worked extremely well from 40-350 yards.

Got a hundred of those loaded up in 25-06 cases to fireform to A.I.

Was thinking about NOT wasting them and hunting with my fireform loads......surely that little 117 btsp will be good on deer?
