I don't have the skills of our very own ND, not even close, but I do enjoy it. I have ideas, just need to practice with them.

No blizzard warnings for us (Yet) but the temps are going to take a dump tonight. High Monday is around minus 15 and the low will be in the minus 30 range. Winds will be picking up too.

My brother is leaving Wednesday for 5 weeks in Texas.

Picking up here, too. Most of the school districts in the area are closing Monday/Tuesday.

It's 35 years old. You aren't going to find too many around here that don't need cab corners. And it's a 4 speed.

If I was looking for a project truck for myself, that would be a very good candidate.

I'd be curious of the gear ratio, likely 3.5:1

With 33.10.5's you might likely get 15 mpg.

Plus, you could always upgrade the engine with late model efi or just go a mid 90's efi swap.

That truck gives me the impression it is simply an original survivor. Those are the ones you want to get hold of rather than something that has already been "fixed up" once or twice.

That really would be a good hunting rig. 79 had better steering geometry, the half ton's ride much nicer than the 3/4's. Lighter in the front with the 6 vs the V8, less displacement equates to better potential for economy. The long stroke of that 6 gives good towing/lugging torque.

What's not to like?

I know bucktail. You should have seen the on I'm working on now. There isn't much that wasn't repaired or replaced. The interior is now painted and the exterior needs a final sand, then it's ready for paint.

Didn't mean to give the impression that I didn't like it. I do, quite a bit. And I agree with you. It seems to be a survivor rather than one that was fixed up. I am a fan of that 300-6. I had a 85 f-150 4x4 w/300 i-6 and a 4sp manal trans. I took that suceker all over the place. I don't remember gas mileage other than it was better than my 79 Bronco. smile

With a muffler on a smooth running 300, you could hardly tell it was on.

Though,, a second look at that truck looks like it has as older box on it. I see two fuel caps without doors. I believe 78 and 79 has the fuel doors with the filler caps behind them.

could be Tom, Unless maybe the "custom" level didn't have doors? I dunno.

That could be. I dunno either. I do know on my 76, I lost about 5 fuel caps because I kept forgetting to put it back on when I was done at the pump. grin With full time 4wd and a 390, I was at the pump a lot.

Throw a flux capacitor in there and run, oh, say 3 million jigowatts through it. By gosh now yer talkin'. Putting in a reverse diflanginator would take it to a whole different level! whistle

Griz, I thought you needed the stainless steel conifner pins for that?

Here is my pearl of wisdom for the week: Don't fly if you have a cold. OHMYGOSH, I have never been more miserable. My right ear didnt pop and I had so much pressure that it affected my optical nerves and my eyes.

I am in Houston now and observing a total PANIC over their winter weather. Shops and business are closed and people are dressed in so many layers it is comical. How bad of weather do you ask? 35 degrees with light rain and the fear of snow or ice. Winter weather adviseries, the news crews are out on location filming roads, and people are freaking out. I just shake my head. oh, and they canceled all the flights in here today. I had to come in yesterday to Austin and drive over.

What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.
