I remember being given whiskey, honey and lemon juice for coughs, though in hindsight I suspect my folks got more relief out of me taking it than I did.

Vernor's ginger ale was a staple used to fight dehydration in any flu sufferers in my childhood home, too.

My Parents gave me the same. Still can't stand the smell of whiskey to this day! And we used 7 UP instead of Ginger Ail.

Merthiolate, Mercurochrome, Camphophenique? Iodine, Cod liver oil and washing my mouth out with soap when I tried out new words!

Had my share of 7up in the sickbed too.

My reactions to whiskey and ginger ale were the opposite-love whiskey and ginger ale makes me feel as if I sbould be lying in bed sick.

Coca Cola and saltines. Can't count the times I've thrown up Coca Cola and saltines. sick

And it had to be those cokes in the little 6 oz. bottles, not the big bottles.

Merthiolate on cuts and scrapes. eek

7-up with salt added for upset stomach. "Drink it while it's fizzing". My 87 year old Mom still has 7-up on hand for upset stomach relief to this day.

Ginger Ale or 7-up for flu,Vicks for colds. I've heard that Ginger Ale is superior due to the actual ginger in it, no idea if that's true. My mom also had some sort of medicine from Mexico that she would mix water and sugar for flu, actually seemed to work pretty well.
Anyone remember those Vaporizers, where you put the Vicks in the little warmer tray and water in the bottom, and it made whole room smell like Vicks?

Mercurochrome and merthiolate on cuts and scrapes...ow,ow,ow,OW! I hated to see those little bottles with the red stopper top and little glass applicator come out!

Mentholatum for stuffy nose and chapped lips.

A spoonful of Castoria when we got stopped up shocked

Whenever we had a sore throat mom would get a kitchen towel and fold it up and heat it up over the floor furnace, then rub Vick's Vapo-rub on our chest and neck, then pin that kitchen towel around our neck.

I also got the Whiskey,Honey,Lemon juice treatment for cough and upset stomach. My great grandpa started saying I was a "Toper" which was an old time name for a drunk. It became Tope and I've been called that since I was 1or 2. Cheers.
