John,
I have a Colt Light Rifle in 300 Win Mag. I have read in your writings that the stock and follower can be upgraded. Is the NULA stock my only option? Do you know a ball park $ figure for the stock?
thanks,
BM

I believe the NULA stock is the only option, but could be wrong. I have no idea what the going price is, but know some other guys on the Campfire have had one installed. Maybe they'll chime in.
Or, have you checked the NULA website?

I checked the NULA website and Melvin's website and neither list anything. I guess I can give him a call tomorrow, just thought you might have the skinny.
thanks,

Talked to him last Monday. Stock with trigger guard, timney trigger, his safety, follower, bedded full legth, and slicken the action up is going to be $670.00 did not specify how much for stock alone. Another roughly $600.00 to rebarrel.

Someone handy with epoxy would have very little problem bedding the CLR into a fiberglass Rem 700 ADL short action stock. The receiver screws are very close to the same distance apart. You would have to open up the mag well for the longer CLR magazine liner.

I called a few weeks ago re a replacement stock for my CLR. A new stock alone is $450 shipped, or $500 if you want to send in your barreled action to get it bedded. My experience with my CLR is that it didn't need anything else, as it shoots great as is.
The rifle doesn't really need a new stock, either. The CLR is an great rifle for the money IMO. I'd give NULA a call; they are pretty nice folks.

Thanks everyone, all my questions are answered. The CLR is/was quite the bargain. It just needs a little help to be all that it can be with some upgraded parts.

NULA 28 and CLR are 1/16" smaller diameter than Rem 700. Translates into 1/32" extra bedding material around action. Might look less than perfect on a wood stock, but shouldn't make much difference in synthetic...at least from my perspective on a hunting rifle.

I've go 2 Colt Light Rifles (30-06); they'll shoot 3" groups on a good day. I keep meaning to upgrade, but the money is always going for another project.

I have an extra L/A Rem 700 stock laying around somewhere. I'll check it out - thanks for the tip. I'm still resisting the NULA stock upgrade for now, although I have to say that I think the stock on my Forbes 24B is the most comfortable synthetic stock I have.
