There is a gun shop locally that does consignments for 20%. That is where I have told my wife to take my extra stuff if need be, after the earmarked ones are given to family. I trust THIS shop, don't know if there is one like it where you are. If there is loading stuff, cartridges, slings, and the other stuff that accumulates that will be harder to find new homes for, except it seems auction sites list all sorts of things.
As for helping, it also gives us a chance to fondle things.

My buddy died two years ago and he had 140 guns and a pile of memorabilia.....most were older off-the-shelf rifles but in nice condition......the family hired a so-so auctioneer that charged 15% and the buyers paid an additional 10% + $20 transfer fee.
I attended the auction with pockets full of cash but came home with all of it as the prices were through the roof....incredibly high.
The family was very pleased with the results.
