Which would be a better choice for big game, mainly deer (99%)

What loads are you guys using?

Harv, we've been loading the 80 TTSX in our 243's for about 5 years now and have great results on deer. A stiff load of Varget has given good accuracy and speed.

I have never used a monolith bullet and have my reservation about it...I have always been a Partition guy but since i am getting into reloading finally i have been thinking of trying it.

I do like the idea of being able to use a lighter bullet to do the same job as a heavier NP...

I plan on loading 100 Partitions in mine. Not a fan of baby TSX's even though alot of folks like them.

Is there a reason for that?

My son had great results with the 100 Partition in his .243. Everything from spring hares and dassies up to Impala in Africa and wild boar, goats and camels here in Oz.

Load the partition, you can't go wrong.

Baby X/TSX/TTSX in .243 have always performed flawlessly for me and my clients/friends/family. Particularly the TTSX. It often loses the front end (petals) like the PT, penetrates as good or better than the PT, and the 80 TTSX can be started much faster than the 100 PT, which means it's flatter shooting over short to medium distances, and has higher impact velos.

Shoot one deer with the 80 ttsx and you will never look back. They hit like a much larger bullet. Shot two of my best bucks with it. One went 20 feet and one went 3 feet. Every deer I have shot with them I have seen go down. All went under 40 yards.

I chose the 80 ttsx and 80 gmx for my 243 win. Only a small sample of dead critters but so far I like it.


Neither is a bad choice between your 2 bullets listed.

I've killed a fair number of whitetails with both. Both are very good performers, I've never recovered a bullet from either. The wound channels from the Partition are a lot more dramatic and the exits larger if that's what you are curious of.

I used a max charge of RL17 with the 80g TTSX at about 3370 fps and the max published charge on Hodgdon's web site with IMR 7828 SSC with the 100g Partition. It's good for about 3060 fps.

I used the 80gr ttsx in factory vortex rounds out of my 243 and I was less than impressed. Not sure if I managed to find one of those deer that refuse to drop but it took multiple shots to the kill zone to bring it down. I also shot a wolf in the chest with the 80gr ttsx and had the pleasure of watching it run off never to be seen again after dropping at the shot. I won't use them anymore, but I know a lot of people absolutely love them. I am very impressed with the heavier ttsx in my saum. Go figure.

I've never had the need to test the 80TTSX....

Partitions, Ballistic Tips, and a few other bullets have been working fine for me...

why reinvent the wheel...

Might as well get a load worked up with a mono. Lead free is coming....I don't like it but the EPA does.

Here is a 100 grain Partition at 3050 behind 41.5gr of Imr4350. Deer jumped straight up in the air, fell on its back, go up jumped one more time and died right there.

Let your rifle decide.

If you like to shoot lungs, the Partition will do a better job than the TSX.

I've had some significantly long death runs with the 243 TSX on lung shots. If you hit bone or have a bigger animal to run them through, they are awesome.

The Partition can blow off enough of the front end to do some damage in the lungs.

Not sure about the tsx, but the question was on the tipped version. I get great expansion on squirrels, coyotes, and turkeys, and penetration is never a problem on deer even with heavy bone hits.

TSX/TTSX hands down. Penetration to throw in the toilet. The ones I've shot in the chest turned the lungs into red soup. All have been very accurate. Out of about 75 deer killed with various TSX/TTSX bullets I've seen one (First shot was in the knee) that needed a second dose. A couple-three others got a second dose, but it was not needed. ZERO failures to expand.

Out of five .243s, all produced good accuracy with 37.5-38.5 grains of Varget. Seating depth varied from .010 off the lands to .080 if I remember right.
