I was looking closer towards the Ohio border but will travel wherever the fishing is good. First time fishing there so not sure of the fishing in general? Thanks.

I can only comment on the U.P. Much more driving. Possibly find somewhere closer.

Some years ago I was fishing with a friend who had done well down on the St Joseph river in southern MI.
IIRC, they have a good summer run, too
Search for local guides out of the towns the St Joe runs thru
