.2LR shooting subsonic-HP's, usually either by CCI, although i have a couple guns sighted with Eleys & Winchester subs also....i love the Mach2 especially when hunting open timber, but for early season i like the quietness of the SSHP's.

What I've used for the last 2 yrs, CCI SV LR, in either my scoped H&R Sportster or my peep sighted 10/22.

My one and only choice has always been the 22 mag.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Second choice? Shotgun. First choice? .22lr. I'd buy/build/use a .22S specific gun long before the .17HM2 comes to my attention.

My second choice is my first choice ..... .22lr Yup! Me too X3 All the HM2 has over it is range. Where I hunt a 60 yard shot would be unheard of. The 22 LR is best for meat hunting. Can't meat hunt with anything else unless it's head shots only. Even the HM2 will mess up more meat than the 22 LR.

For my tame, hickory eating bushy tails, all I need is my Browning .22 short auto with iron sights.

You could become extremely pedestrian and shoot them with a 410. I won't tell, I promise. Personally I've only ever shot them with a headshot from a 22LR or short. Really... Assuming we are speaking of tree squirrels, how does anyone shoot them at 150 yards? You can get a clear shot at a squirrel in the timber 150yds away? Or are you hunting near the park benches...

I had a 24 inch sporter barrel made for my 10/22. It'll do 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with Remington 22 LR Subsonic HP. For the woods I hunt squirrels in, I can't imagine anything better. This combination of rifle and ammo really takes the little buggers out, but doesn't blow them up.
