You gotta shoot 5 of those Rebel deer to have dinner for 3. That is funny, cause its true! Y'all should put out more corn.

I'm sure the Ruger American is a dandy little rifle but trying to compare it to a tikka is most certainly a mistake.
I've loaded 3 different loads for my tikka 270 with 3 different bullets 130...140...and 150 gr with 2 different powders. Didn't play with coal or charge at all just simply loaded 1 grain under Max in each case at 3.34 coal. The largest group was .563 and the smaller groups formed one nice hole. The tikka is capable of the kind of accuracy you are talking about at 400 yds. For an absolute certainty the American and T3 are not two peas in the same pod with a different price tag.

Shod, the only thing I don't like about the Tikka is the one size fits all action. I guess you could learn to live with it but I would rather try something else. What rings do you use on a Tikka? I like the idea of the Ruger SS compact 223 twisted 1-8 and cheap. Finally I think half the accuracy problems reported are parallax or other scope issues. I cannot think of what of these "little deer" around here I could not shoot with it using a 62 grain TSX and 25 grains or so of TAC. Wish they had twisted the 22-250 in the compact faster than 10.

A 22-250 twisted fast would be just the ticket with a heavy TSX and the deer around here. When will someone see the light.

Looked at a few Americans today. The two I looked out both had barrels that were off center quite a bit in the stock. Both were touching on the left.

the very tip of the stock is flimsy. mine touches too. someone said they had luck heating it with a hairdryer to straighten it when it cooled.
i'm just going to sand a little on both sides of the tip.
no big deal. i'm used to adjusting factory rifles out of the box and this one took almost nothing.
i'd pick up on of these before an ADL and i like the remingtons too. just very well put together, these americans.

What I conclude from this thread:
-Some folks need their rectum relieved of a corncob. -Some folks need English lessons. -The Ruger American is a real value that will shoot as well as most rifles, and much better than necessary to kill game the cartridge is capable of killing, at distances further than most should attempt.
Nice read.

Nice read. Howzabout English lessons while becoming de-corncobbed? P

I decided to put a new 6MM Remington barrel on one of my Mausers. Still a bit fond of wood, good bottom metal and safeties that block the firing pin.
