18 below here at sunrise. For some unknown reason the power is out to an outside cattle waterer and it froze up. Turned 52 heifers out to water at the creek. Called an electrician.
Wife and I are sitting here at the kitchen table sipping hot coffee wondering how far the cattle will scatter. Most likely clear to the back forty.

We had -18 here as well. Got my MN turkey tag in the mail late last week. It's almost too cold to think about that... almost.
Didn't get one for WI, but can buy OTC like we did last year. Both kiddo's want to tag along so that will make things interesting to say the least.

Got my tag too. I put in for season C with the hopes that I won't be trudging through 4 feet of snow.

Got a WI turkey permit for April 30-May 6. With all the snow piled out there I am just wondering if I will have to shovel out a spot for my blind. Be sure to tell us about the hunt with the two young'ns.

I got my MN tag for the "A" season. I'm sure there'll be snow. For WI, It'll be a later tag, I like the first and/or second week of May actually. For whatever reason, I've killed more turkeys between May 4-8 than any other time. 'Oak, my boy came with me last year to central WI (Tigerton), at the age of 7. We set up in the middle of a hay field at the bottom of a ridge the bird like to roost on. They either fly down to the field or disappear over the ridge where I don't have permission to hunt. Here is the story from the turkey hunting forum last srping. Turkey Hunt

-7 here this morning. We don't have as much snow on the ground as you guys because it all melted off then came back. I think we got about nine inches with about 2 inches of ice under it.Supposed to warm up a little the next couple of days then they say we get more freezing rain and more snow. Someone kill that damn groundhog Bill

Forgot to add I am sitting here eating a canned venison samich. Left overs from the canned venison gravy and fried taters I had for breakfast last night about 2030. Just as good with a cold Busch Lite as it was with Iced tea and coffee last night. Bill

About 6AM today it started snowing here. Came down steadily all day and have about 4 inch accumulation. Has quit now but will start up again later tonight and snow all day tomorrow for a forecast total of 10 inches. The roads are clear but ought to ice up a bit all during the day tomorrow since it will drop below freezing about dawn tomorrow and snow a lot then. Nothing like what you guys "up nort" get but a a fair amount for here at this time of year. The gun shop I work in is closed on Wednesdays so it will not bother me tomorrow but Thursday morning just might be a bit of a problem. I don't have problems driving in this stuff but I am so wary of a lot of other people who just seem to go beserk when it snows and ices a bit.

Stan,
10" of snow is a lot "up nort" or in South Carolina. Just stay home and let the crazies drive in it and wreck their stuff.

Go with Tom's suggestion, Stan. Take a snow day Thursday.

Thought I'd send this out to my northern Minnesota brethren. I'm sure you know this feller. He kind of reminds me of my grandpa who's folks help settle those parts. Enjoy! http://www.usatoday.com/videos/news/nation/2014/02/11/5382333/

Charlie, I have met and or know most of the people in that news clip. I think the only ones I don't know are the ones that have long since passed In some of the old photos.
Something clever here.

Dave, I kinda figured you might know a few. Good folks to be sure! I love the fact that he still rides those older machines and that he put the first one together because they were "a bit lazy" to snowshoe 18 miles to deer camp! That made me laugh out loud. Great American product put out by great American workers. Cool stuff!

CFT, Thanks for posting that. One of the local news channels ran that story on him on Sunday in a piece called "Land of 10,000 Stories". It was great. Did you catch the part about why he built it? Snowshoeing or skiing 18 MILES into deer camp? I believe the saying goes "the best inventions are created out of necessity." I'd say it holds true in this case. Looks like he was riding around on White Bear's sled too.

I know most of you guys don't drink beer but has anyone tried the new Busch Copper Ale?
I've never heard of it until today when there was an ad on the top of the deer camp thread.
Might have to give it run.
