Will Rogers, Mark Twain, and the rest.
Like them? Any quotes you like?

I remember a quote from Joe Don Looney - "I never met a man I didn't like, except Will Rogers." (His sentiment, not mine - Mom spent part of her growing-up in Oklahoma.)

And yet it irks me the poor dappled fools,
Being native burghers of this desert city,
Should in their own confines with forked heads
Have their round haunches gored."

One of my favorite Twain quotes: "A lie can travel half-way around the world before the truth even gets out of bed" (something like that).

To 'choose' dogma and faith over doubt and experience is to throw out the ripening vintage and to reach greedily for the Kool-Aid.

Oh, gobs of 'em!

Mark Twain

"A good way to start a library is to leave out Jane Austen."

" the calm confidence of a Christian with four aces."

"Always tell the truth. That way, you won't have to remember so much."

I don't care for Will Rogers. If you read his stuff in any depth it is clear he had strong socialist leanings. Plus, his bullshit attitude about the mistreatment of American Indians irritates me. Just because he was an Oklahoma cowboy doesn't make him wise. I suspect if he hadn't died in a plane being flown in blinding snow storm by a one eyed pilot he would barely be a footnote today.

Of the two I much prefer Mark Twain.

liked em both and to this day, I'd rather hear a country boy express his take on things with all the descriptive verbiage that goes along with it than from what I hear from most city slicker politicians.

and Will Rogers was correct about the treatment of the American Indian by our gov't, it was scandalous

treaties reneged upon is just a broken legal contract, much like what the bondholders of GM received.

when laws and agreements can be broken at will particularly by those elected to enforce the law and those agreements, things often don't end well.

believe it was Chief Joseph of the Nez Pierce (sp?) who said

the great white father in Washington treats us like children, someday he will do the same to his own people.

from my angle it appears that day has come.

I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.
