Got one laying around gathering dust? Here's what I'm looking for: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...B_Dana_Design_External_Frame#Post8526400

Those are pretty rare. I've never seen one for sale.
The shortbed has a removable pack. Also the k-2 longbed. They both pop up on flee bay pretty regularly.

Have you looked at the Mystery Ranch packs? Dana, founder of Dana Designs, is the owner of the company and they use similar design schemes to the original Dana packs from the 90's. They are damn expensive but they are amazing packs.

Thanks guys. I just sent money to a member here for a Terraframe with removable bag.

Prez- I think for most, if not all, of the models there was a mixture of ability to use the frame without the bag. For example, there is a Shortbed on eBay right now that you cannot use without the bag because the load lifters are sewn to it. There was also a Terraframe on there not too long ago that was the type where the bag couldn't be removed from the belt. I apologize if using the frame without the bag wasn't what you were referring to as pretty rare.

rider- I am familiar with MR as I had a Crew Cab and currently have a Longbow. I want to give an external with load lifters a whirl, rather than the Lift Kit available for the NICE frame, and see how I like it for hauling meat. From what I could find, the Dana external frame is consistently well-liked.

That makes sense. The lift kit is kind of a pain in the ass. Good luck with the Terraframe. I have a couple of the original Dana internal frame packs for skiing and climbing and absolutely love them. I'm sure the frame pack will be equally as bullet proof.

Good luck field testing that thing this fall!

I have a shortbed with a bag like you mentioned. when the bag is off I've fashioned a load lifter to the top of the frame bar with a strap and buckle. You need to redneck a stop on to the frame bar to keep the lifter from sliding off the corner and down the side of the frame. Seems to work okay.

It's pretty easy to put new load lifter straps directly on the frame

Just bought a k-2 long bed for just that reason. Haven't had time to put it through the passes yet.
