Fur taken on the Powder River that year. Good memories from back in the day..... That's outstanding.

Pat, I saw a "cross " fox just outside of Belgrade one day. Ever get any of them? Maybe a half dozen over the years....never nailed a silver though.

Nice pics! Interesting to see pics from back in the day and see other part of the country.
Scenarshooter...did you kill any coyotes in numbers back in the day? Do you actively hunt coyotes now since they are probably over-running in the West?

They are targets of opportunity. A .30/06 does a nice job on them.
At one with the gun.

Still zilch for me...didn't even call in a coyote this morning. Wife saw one behind the house yesterday while I was at work. To add insult to injury, Ally saw it too. She just can't figure out why I can't kill Swiper? Here's the text chain from the wife yesterday....

Red fox had all but disappeared from my area in the last several years but we have lots of coyotes around. I have never seen a Gray in Iowa but have heard there are a few. This fall and winter I have seen several fox again which is encouraging. We also had a bumper crop of cottontails this year which probably doesn't hurt. I get a kick out of the photos those PA and NY trappers post with their fox catch. Probably more than we have in the whole county.

I have seen two greys in iowa. And they were both treed by coonhounds when I was doing competition hunts. We do a lot of coyote hunting in iowa and we didn't hardly see a fox while season was open. But when breedin season sarted we have seen 7 the last two weekends

Yes, it is I had a local fox that lived around my farm and we seen him a bunch while picking corn this fall. Went down the road first week of trapping season and he was bouncing in the neighbor boys snare

Mostly greys out here . They sure are fun to call . I use a 17 HMR on them with hornady 20 grain XTP's. Drops them right there.

I live in Maryland, on the boarder of PA and see red's all the time around my farm area. Quantity? Not sure, but the past few years have each had at least 1 fox family live on the farm.
My question was going to be, are the almost endangered or on the decline? They don't pose a real threat to our farm in any way, but I wouldn't mind shooting one or two; if I know I am not doing damage to their population in the area. Which I feel like it would do damage.

Coyotes are the major issue that drops their numbers all states with low fox population have good population of coyote ....only room for some many then it's survival of the fittest . I'm in southern md near va and we have a great population of Grey's. quite a few reds but a lot of Grey's .
Think i need a bigger gun

We have lots of foxes. Mostly greys, but a few reds. I used to call, and shoot, a bunch. It was a great way to entertain. After a couple of years, our coyote population exploded. No more.
