Lots of collectors here with gobs of experience and oodles of good taste.
So, I've been thinning my herd with the thought of making room for something I might like, and the question is: What centerfire long gun would be next on your short list after a pre-64 Model 70 .270 FWT and the obligatory Evil Black Rifle?
And remember, I'm stuck in New Jersey, so the M-1 Carbine is a no-go.

A varmint rifle. Summer might be on the way.
Do you still have woodchucks there or did the coyotes get yours too?
Select a rifle hunting cartridge that is "Enough Gun" and not one designed to just wound the enemy!

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I agree with you BSA. No other lever action is as magic as the Model 71. You have good taste in rifles.

The pre 1 million Savage 99 in 358 kicks the 71"s ass. Black gun? When I wanted one I was about 18, the old guys at the show said, Go in the service, they will give you one.

I will not enjoy shooting a 71.
I was thinking of selling the .243 88 and getting a pre 64, or maybe a pre WWII, Winchester 94 in .30-30 with a 20" barrel.

Get a 375H&H. It will impress your friends and give you a good excuse to plan a safari.

I would agree on the Model 71. If not that, a nice Model 64 can be had for half the price. Pre-war would be my first choice. I traded my black rifle for some M1s........carbine and Garand versions.
