Hey guys. I'm about to pick up a Ruger No1 in 45-70 and was wanting to hear from anyone who has mounted a VX3 1.5-5x20 on a no1. I'm thinking I may need to go with offset rings? Any pics would be great.

I've used that exact combo but don't have a pic handy. That scope will work with standard rings - the back of the adjustment turret will be very close to the front of the rear ring. I use an offset rear ring with a standard front ring on all of my No. 1's to get the scope back a little further than the standard rear ring will allow.

Tried it on my No.1 475 linebaugh. With standard rings I would really have to lean into it. More than I wanted to as the rifle is a bit of handful with hot loads. Never caught a scope in the eye and want to keep it that way. I don't care for the looks of the ruger extension rings. So for now I just have a NECG peep with a fiber optic front.

That's a good idea, increases the distance between rings. I like it. Thanks!

Cheers, Scott

That's exactly what I've done, works like a charm.
