I am thinking about putting together a 6x45 bolt gun (my first wildcat) and would like to hear from anyone with experience with the round.
Can I form brass with just a FL sizing die?
What velocities can I expect with 70 to 85 grain bullets and what powders are suitable.
Any info will help
Thanks Brandon

Yes, one pass
70's a little over 3K and 85's at 2750. I use LC brass and H335
TAC, H335, Benchmark etc work

9" will handle them easily, you could get by with 10" too.
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

I had one of these in a TC Contender in the late 70 's and it was a great groundhog round. I believed i used Speer 75 gr HP with IMR 4198 or BlC-2 . I have been thinking of building myself a AR15 in the 6x45 . Lot more powders today . H335 would be a good one to start with and the Hornady V-MAX
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I have a 1-8" twist barrel, because why not.

I run the 70gr TNT with LC 10 brass pushed with XBR 8208 @ 3085fps in a 10twist, 18" tube AR suppressed! I'm sure your speeds would be better in a bolt gun with a longer tube... and as much as I like a fast twisted tube there is really no need for anything faster than a 10 twist in this caliber... IMO anyways...

70 Gr Speer TNT with IMR 8208 XBR here, too. 20" bbl and I'm right around 3075.
I second the no need for fast twist bbl. You won't gain anything with a faster twist. And there is some pretty sound evidence that bullets perform best when matched the proper twist rate for the intended bullet.

I have one in an AR frame. It's about as easy wilcat as you can do. Just push a 223Rem (or 5.56x45) brass through the 6x45 die & your ready to load. There is a lot to like about it... I will also 3rd the 1-10 twist being the fastest needed (especially in AR). This picture will explain much more than my words (AR is limited to a 2.26" COAL. The bullets are 107MK, 105 Berger & 105 Amax. Unusable in an AR or with most 6x45 Reamers (short freebore). The best velocity & accuracy I have got is with R 10X but it's the most nasty chit ever & I just won't use it. Other powders I've liked is H335, Benchmark, & AA 2015 (although lots like the 8208 as mentioned above). I niche for the 6x45 is with light to mid-range bullets. FWIW, the 70gr nosler will fly just fine in a 1-14" twist. The 80's work in a 12 twist. You also will see slightly higher velocities in a slower twist (v/s sam in fast twist, less energy spinning the bullet faster than it needs). Still, an 8 twist in a bolt gun with a long throat would give you the ability to shoot any 6mm bullet you want, at accuracy more than acceptable for hunting. Here is some great info... however, looks like the interior link is unavailable for now. http://www.predatormastersforums.co...showflat&Number=1455558&page=all

I too am looking at a 6x45 or maybe a 6TCU. I have a 6mm barrel blank with a 1:10" twist and I'm just trying to decide.
I'm leaning towards the 6x45 due to ease of reloads and no fireforming like the TCU.
I'm currently planning on 6mm 75gr V-Max - just because I have 300-400 of them.

thanks for the input guys.
My plan is a 21" number 1 contour with a 1 in 10 twist on a interarms mini mauser action set in an old mpi stock blank i bought for a mini build long ago.
Anybody have any loads for the 70 grain nosler bt and if so how does that bullet perform on predators and deer? I figured at these velocities the 70 grain BT would hold up fine.

Just finished my Faux Ti this past fall. Got it to twart the 223 minimum BS. Still sorting schit out, but here's where I'm at so far. Scope is now a 3.5x10 with target turrets and I like it a ton. Barrel is a Douglas 1:9 and I'm using LC75/79 and Laupa brass. LC is for dinking around with 55NBT's (purple people eaters) and I'm getting 3,165 w/H335 2.270. Shoots in the .3's As for heavies, they are still underway. Ran some 85 NPT's to 2,781 until pop went the weasel. Moly and a bushed FP should take care of that nonsense. My understanding is .378 Remmies are notorious for craters. What I'm really trying to make work is 95 Berger VLD Target, though I think I screwed the pooch at 1:9 instead of 1:8. Messed with them a little so far and saw a few promising things, but nothing to hang my hat on since I was just running up pressure. Managed to get to 2,672 FPS kissing the lands. No sign yet, group ended up around an inch with various charge weights. If that bullet sings like I hope it will, the flight pattern will mimic a 308 shooting 175 SMK's. Not that I have a .308, but it's fun to mess with the tacticool fingerless glove crowd using a pea shooter. This rig was previously a 223AI and about as much fun as a fella could have with his pants on, but I figured a little doe thumper would be fun too. If the 95's don't run, I'll try 87's. If you have an itch for heavies, go 1:8. Remmie you'll prolly wanna yank the spacer and add 1/4" aluminum. Mine currently feeds like schit, but stamped followers are schit to begin with.....

Tag; I just had one built by Dave Sink in Lexington, NC. Rem 700 action, 22" Benchmark sporter. Wanted a light 6mm for midwest farm deer and other critters. Will let you know how it shoots.

Not to hijack.... Looks like you need to send your bolt out to Gre' Tan have it bushed and the firing pin depth set.
I just had them do my little Sako A1 in .17 Remington as it was blanking primers like your rifle. They did a great job, quick turnaround and the problem was solved.
