What a fantastic time last year, count Kevin in, thanks!

Anywhere would be fine!

I have a couple very shinny $0.02 cents worth for unit #15 where we hunted elk last fall!

If I may present my reasoning?

*Tons of firewood, not a lot of chance of a fire ban in June.

*All kinds of camp areas we can get an easy 600 yard range.

*Short hike to some stream fishing.

*Good chance there will be cow tags for the same area.

*There is a chance to be near some transition areas for elk and deer drops (sheds).

*Some major fishing along the trip to the area, from every direction.

*Some plain ol beautiful country.

*Very good chance we could camp on some sort of water.

RIO - that Remington was the talk of the gathering. What a great firearm. Also -- many thanks for the time you spent with my boy teaching him some shooting techniques. Your patience and generosity were much appreciated. You, sir are welcome at my campfire anytime!

I will bring the weed....

But seriously, family, work first but I am in beyond those conflicts. The Chafee range or the range in Gunny can be had. It just depends if you want to roll out of bed and shoot like the lake George location or get up and drive to it.

The Chaffee range has targets out to 1200 (IIRC), but I don't know if there is a campsite close by. I do know the range is free to the public though.

I might be interested unless its the 4th weekend, that weekend is booked for vacation at work already.

AZ will be too dry to camp this summer!

There are some places near by the Chaffee range to camp but it will require a drive to shoot there.

How many people and how many trailers last year? I will ask around.

Need to know when, was planning a trip to Colorado to see an old friend. Might be a fun side trip.

I am pretty familiar with the Buena Vista/Salida area. I have camped in and around there for years. The biggest issue is finding a suitable place for a big throw-down camping area for a big group. The Sawatch Range is mighty steep. A lot of the land down in the canyons is private, so you gotta get up high. There are some neat places on Cottonwood creek west of Buena Vista, but that is at least 30 minutes from this range. The next drainiage is up towards Mt Princeton and it get really rocky up by St Elmo. There may be an area up there, by Iron City. The next area after that is either up on Antero or on Monarch Pass. All of these will be a drive to that range. There would easily be some good places up on Aspen Ridge East of there, but you have to drive around to get across the Arkansas River - again at least 30 minutes to this range.

With the way the snow is piling up, I'm thinking late June or late July. Stay away from the 4th

Here is the Arkansas River Valley with the Sawatch Range behind.

Last year we had a big main tent and thee were probably 12 rigs total and Maybe 6-7 trailers. Hoping for a bigger crowd this year.

Why do we need a "range"?

A couple T-posts and some steel makes a fine range.... hell, I'll shoot [bleep]' rocks.

You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......
