How do you find out how many of a gun were made?

Heres a winchester 1876 saddle ring carbine in 45-75 with a factory bayonet. Winchester letter says they made around 220 of them but the letter didn't say where they were shipped to,my guess is some banana republic. Loggah; Thanks for posting up the photo of the 1876 - I didn't even know such a beast existed. As you likely know the 1876 was in service to our NWMP from 1878 until as late as 1914. One interesting tidbit I found this morning on page 18 in Roger f. Phillips and Donald J. Klancher's "Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873-1973" is this report from the Dominion Government 1899. Apparently in 1898 the Dominion Government sold 210 "condemned" 1876 Winchesters for $1.50 each to Hartley and Graham, merchants in New York City. These were carbines the militia department had acquired during the Riel Rebellion of 1885 and which never saw service in the Mounted Police. It doesn't say if they had a bayonet lug or not - but the number is close enough to the total produced to be interesting is it not? Anyway sir, I thought I'd share that bit of information with you and anyone else interested this morning and thanks so much again for sharing yours. All the best to you this weekend sir. Regards, Dwayne

Not sure how many were made but a Ruger 7x57 RSI. Since bastardized into an RLS stock with an NECG receiver sight and sourdough blade. That is sharp. I like the post-bastardizing better.

I have what I think is a Remington 725D, one of eight I believe. It has a beautifully figured factory stock with an oil finish and a checkering pattern a bit coarser and different from a standard 725.
I bought a Model 700 in .221 Fireball with a laminated stock a few years back; one of 200. On one occasion I was able to put ten of Bergers 40 gr. HP's in 0.55".
I have two of the first 1200 Model 700 carbines made, both .30/06.

I have a model 12 28 gauge, It was made the first year that they were offered. It is a field grade, which is surprisingly much more rare. Also, a S&W model 1 3rd issue, It has a squared off backstrap which only a few where made.

I recall seeing this Burgess in a Rifle Magazine article by Mike Venturino IIRC a couple years ago. Was that your rifle featured?

That's pretty cool Shrap. It seems like I saw an article about that several years ago in one magazine or another.

shrapnel; Top of the morning to you sir, I trust this finds you and yours well on this snowy Friday morning. Thanks for sharing those photos, I've again got to say I don't believe I've ever seen even that much of a Burgess wrist slide rifle pair. I thought I'd seen a Burgess pump shotgun or two at gun shows up here and Googled for some images to refresh my memory. While it doesn't seem like I'm able to successfully copy the link to here - some photos of a gentleman that looks a lot like you holding one showed up. Thanks again and all the best to you and yours this weekend. Dwayne

Buffalo rifles with actual buffalo hunting provenance are quite rare. Here are a couple that survived the hard use in buffalo hunting in Montana. The first is a Walter Cooper gun, customized by Walter Cooper in Bozeman, Montana Territory in the 1870's. It has his stamp on the barrel and is in 40-90 BN clambering, the preferred caliber in Montana at the time. The second is another gun shipped to J. G. Dow of Bozeman and getting rebuilt by A. D. McAusland of Miles City, Montana Territory. It too is chambered in 40-90 B.N. Both of these guns having survived the hard use and conditions of that era are rare...

I remember an old neighbor that had a collection of very unusual firearms, most one-offs, with weird actions, none of which I had ever seen or heard of. At the time, I was just shooting and didn't know just how rare they were, just realized they were like nothing I had ever seen before. His widow sold the entire collection for $8K as I remember. One was probably worth that much. It was really a shame to see a lifetime collection gone in a blink, cut up and scattered to the wind.
