That was easy! No need to waste time at the range now. I think you told me before but what velocity are you getting?

Of the dozens of black bears I have been party to killing, my most impressive kill was with a 375 Ruger shooting factory loads. Immediate death is an understatement, it flattened the bear in its tracks and I didn't even hit him in the shoulders. Lots of energy! I had mine in a McMillan stock and it was as handy as can be.

I sold it when I was leaving Alaska, got a premium for it up there and didn't think it's something I'd need in Texas!...grin

It's hard to see clearly but here it is in my hands on a spring Grizzly hunt, really liked that rifle. I had Talley QD's on it and a VXIII 2.5-8 on it. Perfect Alaska big game rifle!

It looks like Hornady and Nosler are the only factory ammo and Ruger the only company chambering the cartridge in a factory rifle. IMHO it is not dead, but it is on life support. It's a shame. 375 H&H performance in a standard action in an affordable rifle. Gun buyers are fickle and many good ideas don't make it. I hope I am wrong.

Savage is also chambering it, but I'd probably buy the Ruger.

Howa and Savage too. That is definetly better odds. The ammo thing would be better if Remington, Winchester, or Federal would load for it.

I'm surprised Federal is not loading for it.

I have an Alaskan Brush Hunter in 375 Ruger. It's a handy stick to carry, IMO.

Remington is loading for the 9,3X62 these days. I'll bet they get in line with the 375 Ruger, too.

I guess you never read John Wooters article describing wild cattle hunting along the Rio Grande? Old John said the brush wash so thick, they practically had to crawl along the cow paths, and the big old wild bulls so ornery that they used "elephant rifles" to stop the short range charges.

Maybe you can get your Ruger back?

"Remember too, that Hornady is in the middle of on-going process to supply provinces all over So Africa with not only 375 Ruger factory ammo, but also with the 416 Ruger ammo too"
bigsqueeze: If this is so, where in Africa can I buy 416 Ruger ammo for my trip in August? What is your source of information about the Hornady supply campaign in Africa?

......My source was Hornady themselves back around `08-`09.

I called them directly and talked with someone within their sales or marketing division. Call em up and get the latest updates.

Well if you run into a 20" Alaskan let me know. I'm having trouble finding one. I think they are going to do just fine. Sure surprised Ruger how many they have sold. As far as the 480 being gone I just ordered a 1000 pieces of brass for that and a 1000 pieces of 475 Linebaugh. They are available. But you have to plan ahead.

Look at the Glock 45 GAP as a perfect example.

I doubt they'll stay around forever.
.............375 Ruger rifles (African/Alaskan) haven`t sold well?

The 375 Ruger is not a proprietary cartridge. Along with Ruger, Howa and CZ chamber it too. Others may follow.

Can`t see how or why anybody would get weirded out using a 375 Ruger.

Nothing that is man made lasts forever.

Add Steyer Manlicher and Savage to the list. They did the 375 Ruger too.
