I can't rember where I read it had different magazines, but I'm glad to be wrong!

It was in an article by Holt Bodinson in the March 2014 issue of GUNS magazine. "Feeding the New Ruger American is a 10-shot, rotary, 10/22-type magazine. While it looks exactly the same, it's not interchangeable with the standard magazine of the Ruger 10/22. The American magazine is narrower for a reason. It permits Ruger to achieve a slimmer and more traditional bolt-action stock line. No bloated belly in this new American. The action area of the stock is tight and trim"

My 10-22 mags don't bloat the belly. And slip in, and dropout just like the one that came with it. I do believe ol' Holt is blowing smoke out his azz......

I don't have one (cuz they don't come in left hand) but when I read that I thought Ruger really screwed up there. They show a picture of the mags side by side and I can't tell the difference.

I bet if Ruger released the Rimfire American in 17 HMR, I doubt if they could keep up with the production vs the demand...

I read the article in Guns about not being able to use 10-22 mags in an American. Don't know what this guy was drinking when he wrote that but 10-22 mags work as well as the factory supplied mag in my American. I checked the Ruger web site and it states that all 10-22 mags will work.

My cousin told me in his Sunday email his ohio gun store told him they where going to have ruger americans in .17s in a few weeks. He wanted to know what I have read about them. Thought they could sell at $299 a copy. I believe I would like to have one. I have a few spare scopes on the shelf that are looking for a ride to the woods.

Agreed and the centerfires too! If they did, my oldest would be completely outfitted in them.

We have 2 of the americans in 22wmr and the mags I have for the 77/17 and my 10/22 magnum all work fine. Like phwillie said, the ruger website states they will.

I'm so smart I figured out how to post pictures.

There's no shame in you shutting the [bleep] up now.

I love my American 22lr. Very accurate. I even sold a 77/22 after shooting the American a couple hundred times. I'm thinking about a .22mag but the .17HMR has me thinking...

Groups I can cover with a quarter (fifty yds); that's how I like 'em.

Try some other types of ammo and that group should shrink?

My 22" bbl American does around 3/4" groups @ 50 with bulk ammo, closer to 1/2" groups with ammo it really likes.
