I have zero experience with Swarovski but I just bought one today to put on my 300 wsm. Other than magnification and price what is the difference between the Z3 and Z5? The one I bought was the 3.5-18x44.

Main difference is the z3 uses the leaf spring setup. The z5 uses the coil spring setup. They say the coil is better for heavy recoil, but my z3 has worked great on my very light 300 wsm.

5X zoom vs 3X zoom. extra lense in Z5 because of that but it is still a fantastic lowlight scope. It also has coil springs in lieu of leaf springs like the poster above said. I just bought a Z3 4-12x50 the Z5 3-18x44 would have been 600 bucks more .

So the Z5 and the Z6 have the same construction as to the coil springs for retaining zero in the scope??

DF my brother bought a used 4-12x50 with the Swaro Turrett that has multiple range dials ...is the Outdoorsman turret a replacement for it ? Thanks Yes. It fits over the bottom Swaro BT ring, replaces the top two rings. I like it better than the three BT dots, usually set at 100 yd increments. Hunting ranges usually fall in between and the calibrated turret is a big assist in finding the right range setting quickly. Here's my Z3 4-12x50 BT with Outdoorsmans turret set up for .300 WM, 180 gr. NBT/NAB on Ed Brown Damara. The red dot is the bottom Swaro BT ring. DF

Thanks for the pics

I like the Swaro, but feel that my next Swaro with a turret may be a Leupold VX-6 with CDS.
Just saying.

Dirtfarmer,
My next scope is going to be a VX-6 3-18X. What is CDS?
By the way it won out over the z5 3 1/2-18X because the z5 has a 30' field of view while the VX-6 claims a 38' field of view. That gives the Swarovski about 707 square feet to look at. The Leupold allows 1,134 square feet to check out. That's 60% more!

Custom Dial System, Leupold's elevation turret, set up MOA or dedicated yardage for a specific load.
More buzz for the buck compared to Swaro BT with aftermarket turret.

Another difference is the reticle is heavier in the Z3.
