Long time lurker.

What little I know about Savage 99s I learned hunting with my father's 99R 300Sav. in the '60s and 70s. I picked up a 99 in 243 a couple years ago and am looking to pick up three more in 300av, 308, and 358.

Glad you came out of the closet. grin

First two should be easy, 358 takes a bit of looking and a bit more $$.

Welcome to the Fire. Looks like you already have what most others here have: Medical term is "Savage 99 Addiction." It is almost impossible to cure.
Enjoy your time here and good luck on finding what you have on your wish list.

++1 on Rory's and Chappy's comments...this is a great site to learn about the 99's. I started here with "1" and now have "14". Fantastic hunting rifles smile

Welcome to the board!

What model of 99's are you pursuing in those calibers? R's?

Not 'broke' yet, I still have three items on my wish list!
My dad's was an R, and I am supposed to get it, some day. The 243 I have now is an F. I will be looking for RS, R, or EG, in that order.
I have seen a few disparaging comments concerning the EG on the forum, and have not yet figured out why they were made.
Thank you for the welcome.

Only reason to disparage the EG is because there are so many of them. Unless they are in top shape or a rare chambering there isn't much collector interest. Same as the 50's R's.

Rory isn't your "tomato stake" EG your go-to deer gun, or at least the only one that manages to harvest one?

It's not the only one that gets one, but it's the lucky gun. Maybe greedy would be a better word. No deer on the ground until it shoots the first one.

If you're married, hope you have an understanding spouse. The cure for Savage addiction will not come till my future home freezes over.

Had none a month ago and now I have 3. Asked one simple question and they said "yeah, we can fix you right up." Oh by the way would you be interested in another one. Then, did you see that gun on the wizbang board? These guys are definitely enablers. powdr

Thank you for all the good comments. Going to try the pictures again. Not sure what the line on the barrel in the first picture is. There's nothing there on the gun.
